Title: New MT - Traxxas Summit
Post by: ajit4647 on April 14, 2011, 10:20:06 PM
Hey guys.

along with the wheels and tire upgrade (see Brushless E-Maxx topic) i recieved another package.

Got a Red Traxxas Summit. dont have any proper shots as my camera died while taking pics.

looking forward to some rock crawling action tomorrow. will post vids as soon as i get back.

in a short home test it could climb up a vertical wall. but the batteries were not fully charged so could not take it on the stairs.

Thanks guys.

@Siddharth - U are right. this thing redefines "Go anywhere" for Rc.

@fmanavalan - Got it from Jayanth(RC Throttle) Bangalore. Price was approx 37k.

It is tons of fun. even with my amateur crawling skills it still managed to crawl over most of the terrain today.

only problem is that on some steep inclines the rear goes under the front and it tips over onto its back.

otherwise its just an awesome piece of machinery.

the other problem is that it does not have a LVC, so Lipo's are a no no till i can get that. and the stock batteries run for about 30 mins with a mix of low and high gear.

its decently fast in high gear. in low gear there is no stopping it.  >:D crawled over everything in its way (including my e-maxx)

Havent taken it through water yet. But everything else is Rock Solid and tons of fun.

none of todays vids came out well. so uploading a few pics.

will try to get some good videos tomm. trying to convince a friend who has a E-Revo Brushless to come along.  ;D lets see...

Hey you should try crawling at night with all those LED's :) How fast will you rate it in % compared to e-maxx? Strange that it does not come with LVC.

@ Divyam, iamahuman - Thanks guys. yep dealing with Jayanth has been a pretty nice experience. and i wish the forum would support slightly bigger file sizes for pics. some of the pics i take with my SLR are not compressing without loosing all detail when compressed to 192 kb :(

@Rajathv8 - crawling at night should be possible. the LED's are pretty bright. as for speed please check out the video of a small drag between my E-maxx and Summit. the summit was at full throttle. while the E-Maxx was at about 70% throttle to avoid a wheelie.

individually its decently fast. but compared to an E-Maxx its slow. btw the both of them were running stock 7-cell Nimh traxxas batteries in the video.

That clears things. Thats fast enough. :) You can upload detailed pics on some other site and paste the link. Like what Divyam did for his slash.

Yeah.. 192kb is really small.. Even using a good image compressor, I couldn't get it to 192kb..
Create a Photobucket ID.. Its free! :D

Damn, after seeing the pics and vids, I'm so jealous!  (:|~

I know that the summit has 5 servos. What are they for?

Title: Re: New MT - Traxxas Summit
Post by: Divyam on April 17, 2011, 11:54:46 AM
As far as I know, 2 are for steering, 1 for changing gears, 1 for each diff.. Am I right?

Amazing photography man. Loved that pic e-maxx, summit and the beach in the background  :salute: All we need is a video showing summit's crawling skills  :)

Hey can you also post close-up pics of the diff_servo ,  gear_servo arrangement.?

I guess a signature is in order :)

hey guys.

will create a photobucket id later tonight.

and yes it has 5 channels. ESC, dual steering servos, 2 speed trans. and 2 for T-Lock.

pics and a vid attached to show servos. the second pic has the servos marked out.

at the end of the vid i accidently hit reverse. ouch!  :banghead:

You make us wait for your videos and now i know why ! SUPERB ! Pro work it is  Summit literally goes anywhere. Mud, water, rocks. Nothing is a deterrent for it. The best part its ready for a shower at the end  :) you may want to try and sell the video to traxxas  :P ;D

The opening of the video is BRILLIANT ! Love the way the car comes onto the cam. Superb thinking !

Title: Re: New MT - Traxxas Summit
Post by: ajit4647 on April 28, 2011, 12:24:08 AM
 ;D thank u shashank.

i cant take all the credit for the cam angles. the entry of the summit was my friends idea. some of them are my idea and some are his.

and as for the summit it truly is go anywhere. and i have seen lots of ppl complain online that its slow. of course if one is used to a brushless setup then yes its a bit slow. but otherwise its pretty much an all in one.

its raining pretty heavily here right now. so if possible i shall take it out for some more vids tomm.  ;D

only problem is the runtime. i am using 2 sets of 3000 mah NiMh batts. and both the sets give me a combined run time of abt 40 mins. so need higher capacity. and i need NiMh for the water resistance.  :banghead:

apart from that its a magic machine  :P

Hey, I just read your comment above. Doesn't the summit come with Mamba Motor and Esc??

Edit: Ignore this one.. Just checked the traxxas site..

Great vid!
How do you take the Summit so easily into water? I know its waterproof, but still!
I freaked when my Slash splashed around in a small puddle! :D

a small video showing the summit in some water.  ;D

its a little slow as most of it is in water. no probs with it. its running fine.

So the water action video reduces its resale value, or is it increased ? :headscratch:

Title: Re: New MT - Traxxas Summit
Post by: iamahuman on April 28, 2011, 10:42:19 AM
The resale value of any modern car goes down thew moment you open it up and use it.Even the ones on EBay reduce in value after they are opened.Only vintage cars appreciate in value.(The only that comes to my mind is the RC10).

Coming to this video,I don't think the video will have any effect as the running was within acceptable limits.

Compliment your friend for the idea on my behalf. Its superb. 40 mins run time sounds pretty good to me. If you have a decent charger you can charge your batteries in an hour or so and your trucks ready again. how's the run time on the e-maxx with lipos ?

Title: Re: New MT - Traxxas Summit
Post by: ajit4647 on April 28, 2011, 01:04:55 PM
@Divyam & iamahuman - thx. i went thru almost all the water related threads on the traxxas official forums and a lot of you tube vids before i attempted anything. as an extra precaution i put the batteries in balloons and taped them up. and the esc was also covered lightly with a balloon  ;D

and immediately after the water wash, took it home pulled it apart a bit and let everything dry and sprayed WD-40 on all the metal joints and near the bearings. Hopefully should keep the thing from rusting.

@anwar - Dunno about the resale value, but the desirability value has definitely gone up  :giggle:

@tassem - nope. no mamba in this. it comes with a Titan 775 brushed motor and a EVX2 ESC. but i have a few plans. lets see how it turns out.

@shashank - 40 mins is with 2 sets of batteries meaning 4 batteries. The E-maxx on the other hand has been somewhat of a surprise. i have been consistently getting 50-60 mins of runtime on just one set of 6000 mah Lipo's. and i am very heavy on the throttle.

Post by: iamahuman on April 28, 2011, 01:07:37 PM
You are one lucky dude.50-60 mins with heavy throttle for long.

600MaH.. That's why!
Can't wait for my LiPo! ;D

Those are the Tritech Lipos, right?

Title: Re: New MT - Traxxas Summit
Post by: ajit4647 on April 28, 2011, 01:13:32 PM
will pick up another set of lipos maybe with a LVC or LVA so that i can run the summit on those when not running in water.

btw anyone know where i can get 48 pitch pinion and spur gears?? i currently have a brushless motor and ESC on order for my sparrowhawk dx and i might need to gear down.

and iamahuman@divyam - what batts are u guys using in ur slash?? and wat runtime are u guys getting on an avg?? yep mine are the Tritech lipos

My lipos will take some time to come to me.

Divyam has the Tritech lipos waiting for him.

A few pics i forgot to upload.

and the left steering servo on the summit got toasted. looks like a common problem. read on a lot of forums that this has happened to quite a few people.

Title: Re: New MT - Traxxas Summit
Post by: Divyam on June 04, 2011, 06:30:04 AM
I think that happens to a lot of dual servo vehicles. I've heard that the 2 servos tens to fight each other.
I  suggest you get 1 good, strong MG Digital servo.

Summit looks great in the 2nd pic
