This is Blasphemy. But I can't help it.

I've decided to convert my Savage X. This is more out of love for the truck than anything else. I miss driving it. Being a nitro, I can't take it out whenever I please. And I hate that! So conversion is the only option. I will definitely miss the Nitro "prep and clean" sessions though. And the smell. Oh the sweet smell of nitro. I should mention the sounds too.. The revs, the shifts.. Damn..

But, like I said, running the truck is more important! So electric it is.

I will be retaining the original TVP chassis. Will go with a different tyre/wheel combo to lower the truck. Gearing will be altered to suit this. I've ordered a Kershaw Designs mount which will keep the CG quite low. Motor will be the monstrous TORK (Castle 2200KV rebrand). I found a brand new one at an ebay chop shop and won it for 3k!! That's dirt cheap for that motor. The seller is reliable. 90% of my Traxxas spares were from them. My only worry is the peaky power delivery. I am not a fan of backflips or constant wheelies. All four wheels on the ground = Power + Steering! If this does not pan out well, I will go the 1/6 route with an extended TVP. But trying to keep costs down at the moment.

Now looking at good ESC options which don't cost a bomb. Hopefully one will pop up at a good price point.

My target top speed is 30mph. Suggest me an ESC that has a smooth power curve while not exorbitantly priced. I know this motor is capable of much much more, but I don't want to run the motor at its peak, rather play with the abundant torque and keep things consistent and reliable without having to worry about temps or broken parts. Plus the savage at 30-35mph is plenty fast. Any more and it will be a struggle to control it. Being waterproof will be an added advantage. I have a spare traxxas waterproof reciever box that I'll be using for this build as well.

I already have flux spec diffs. Hopefully they work well. Wondering if the drive shafts will hold up.

This will be a slow but steady conversion. Especially due to the lead times involved in getting parts from abroad.

Please chime in with ideas and suggestions! Am I missing any parts? I won't be ordering the flux battery boxes. Looking at alternatives.

Thumbs Up

Hi,

Since you want to go for a moderate performance level along with water proofing, Kershaw Designs have got one good ESC:
'Kershaw Designs Gen 3 - 120A Waterproof ESC'

The cheapest & best ESC you can go for nowadays is this:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__14635__Turnigy_TrackStar_150A_1_8th_Scale_Brushless_Car_ESC.html
It is working great as far I know & you CAN use the full potential of your Tork motor with it 'if' you want to go all out.
To smoothen power delivery & other parameters, you may buy along with the ESC, this:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__14631__Turnigy_TrackStar_ESC_Programing_Card.html
Just not waterproof but a Plasti Dip may be employed to water proof the whole setup (Don't know where to get it in India  Tongue)

Hope it helps Smiley

I would suggest going for a genuine HW ESC. The EZrun 150A would be great.

Hey thanks! This is actually one of the ESCs I'm considering. Plus I can get them to test it out before shipping.

I've bid on a couple online. If luck favours, I'll win one at a great price. 5 days till auction ends Smiley I've also zeroed in on a couple of chop shop ESCs from castle..

Nice! Is it the Vortex R8? How much are you looking for it? Any reviews I can look at?

A 550 can in a savage will have difficulties. A true 1/8 motor is suggested.
