Post by: merin_83 on August 28, 2011, 12:05:25 AM

Hi Guys, Am new to this forum and also the RC world, currently in US, and will be returning to India next week. But recently i just purchased a Maisto Rock Crawler, yes a Toy grade one... but it is very good one, and now i am looking for some hobby grade rock crawler, also now I don't have time to get here in person and take to India... so i landed up in this forum :D .... so from above post i understand that there are no correct  or wrong way but as to follow best practices if ordering online.. and I dint find any online shops in India for rock crawlers... :( (to my knowledge).... the above links i just check http://www.hobbydream.com/18th-sacle-electric-powered-offroad-crawler-94880t2_p11958.html ....  it came to around $250, with UPS shipping.. so wat would be the approx duty for this item ? please bare me if its dumb question.

thanks,
merin

Its completely depend on ur luck. may be u have to pay or may be u will get clean chit from custom, I ordered my heli around same amount but Its done without any duity.
My friend in custom (Sea), and he told me that they cannt hold shipment unnecessary, mostly radio controled product will create problem, so I suggest if this crawler is not with Tx the order that Tx saperatly, it will increase cost of shipping but risk will be low.

I hear Kapil from Dogbone Racing( the same guy who owns Traxxas India) is going to start stocking Axial products. If you're coming to Bangalore, you might as well pick your summit up from Jayanth. He is the distributor for Karnataka. You don't have to wait for shipping or anything ;D.

Shall I try to change your mind a little? How about a race oriented vehicle? We guys can meet up and race at Pitstop. Just a suggestion ;).

And just tested with the stock battery, because i read some where that lipo battery should be stored with min voltage..etc, so dint open the package .... suggestion pls for lip maintance or any previous links  :help:   ...

Well let me be the first to congratulate you on the summit vxl.

As for lipos they dont need to be stored all the time at storage voltage. Thats only when they wont be used for an extended period of time.

Just to be on the safe side get a lipo safe bag and use it while charging and transport.

As for charging normal recommended charge rate is 1c which in your case would be 1.1 amps.

And make sure the lipo cut off is active on your esc when running with a lipo.

And post some pics if u can plz :-)

But for forward, the RED LED goes off and the motor rotates front , any idea what is the issue ? i doubt its ESC ? or motor how to find ??? HELP please !!!!!!!    :'(  :'(   :'(

It must be with the ESC settings :) Dont worry. The ESC comes with a mode where reverse is disabled i guess. Check the manual and set it to the correct mode :)

i checked that too, no use.. i kept in sport / race / train mode.. but no luck,, even the front control also some time not smooth, kerks at initial stage. dono if its motor issue or ESC.

Does it "jerk" on launches with hard throttle? Or does it "jerk" at low throttle?

Just check if all the wires are connected properly. Worst case scenario, your ESC or radio is dead. Lets not get there yet :)

We call the jerking at low throttle as 'cogging'. This is a characteristic of sensorless brushless systems. The new ones don't cog as much though. The other reason would be insufficient power being put out by the battery or the motor is drawing too much. Reasons? Binding in the drivetrain. Check that too. A slight possibility is that your radio isn't communicating with your Rx( Receiver). But this is unlikely. Just to rule out any radio issues, have a friend carry it away from you and give steering inputs periodically. If its got good range without glitching, it should be good to go.

Again, worst case scenario is that your ESC is blown. If it is, it gives you a reason to upgrade ;D

iamahuman, i tried below things,

1. Tried the remote at a distance, the steering works perfect and even the car goes front, only reverse is the problem, so guess Radio is not the issue.

2. It jerks at low throttle, very much, but when i pull to full throttle, then it calms down. But when ever i try forward or reverse the LED on the ESC goes off as said in the manual.

3. And what is this "Binding in the drivetrain" i dint get. Like some thing blocking the gears and axil ? I tried one similar test, detached the motor from the gear and tested, even then the forward works fine, but no reverse :(.

So I guess its ESC issue ???. And i saw a replacement VXL-3m system(motor + ESC) for $94 in e bay, can i order? my friend will be coming from US next month i can get that via him. Or what you meant for upgrade ? what system would be compatible with summit mini Please let me know, i need to order before he comes.  :-\

:banghead: - dint expect a $300 to go off like this.

merin

Jerking at low throttle is a part of all sensorless brushless systems. Not to worry about that.

Binding in the drivetrain can be for one of many reasons. It can be a bad mesh between the pinion and the spur, or it could be a bent axle or something. Gandhar can clear the air over that :)

I thought that too, so i separated the motor from the gears and tried separate test, even then the only forward works, but reverse wont !!

Traxxas replaces faulty ESC's for new trucks right?

Title: Re: Stores selling rock crawlers in India
Post by: Siddharth on September 17, 2011, 01:01:33 PM
I think its your ESC. Best way to check would be to connect to a different ESC and try the motor but since you dont have friends with the same car its an issue.

Since you have bought this from the US, you will need to send the faulty esc to the head office. Return shipping and duty will have to be paid by you.

If it was bought in India it would be a free replacement. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

i bought this in US, there its easy..(for 30days) am not sure of this in india.. do traxxas.in cover ???

Title: Re: Stores selling rock crawlers in India
Post by: Siddharth on September 17, 2011, 01:06:35 PM
Traxxas India will not cover it since its not purchased from them or its dealers. The 30 day period is for electronics, it will be replaced if they find it faulty or defective, if they find it misused or an error from the user you will have to pay repair charges along with two way shipping and duty.

I agree with Siddharth on the diagnosis. Its ( most possibly) the ESC. By upgrade, I meant trying the Mamba Micro Pro system. If its too expensive, you can try the Toro combos. People have had good luck with them. I haven't read much about mini ESC's. I'll see how the Mamba's have been and I'll let you know.

me too thought so,, but if i get a ESC from traxxas india now, then it should have warranty rt ?

is this the one http://www.castlecreations.com/products/mamba_micro_pro.html     ??

Please bear with me, i have few questions,,

1. Does this can be used with the existing Velineon 360 motor in the traxxas ?
2. Is this available in india ? (so i can get warranty for some time ;) )
3. How much wire are there from receiver to ESC ? (2 or 3) i see in traxxas its 3. but in mamba its 2 ?

please advise !!!

That is the one I spoke about. You can't get it in India. There should be 3 wires from the ESC to the Rx...

Are the castle systems water proof?

Title: Re: Stores selling rock crawlers in India
Post by: ajit4647 on September 17, 2011, 11:16:04 PM
they are splash proof. not waterproof afaik.

Title: Re: Stores selling rock crawlers in India

I don't think Castle advertises their systems as splash proof. The system in the XS Flux is said to be "waterproof". I bet they mean to say 'water resistant'. If Castle does say their systems are splash proof, its going to be good...

AFAIK, only Hobbywing advertises their product as splash proof.

Would be good to see water proof systems from castle.
