I have ordered mobile phone from China which is shipped by EMS Singapore on 30th July 2014. Since 2-8-2014 status is Send item to customs (Inb).
What should I do as its more that 10 days its with customs.

I called up EMS speed post and got to know that parcel is detained with customs. Then called up customs but they went for lunch

Please guide what all documents I need to submit?

Dont worry Customs people sometimes take time to clear the parcel. You may receive a notice from customs telling you the documents you need to send them.

And try not to contact customs on your own. In most cases, that leads to HARASSMENT instead of smooth clearance.

On parcel item mentioned as Cell phone and amount 50$ as GIFT. Its already 10 days parcel is with customs, any idea how long they may take to send me notice? I am worried about misplacing parcel by them.

Previously, I bought one tablet from this site and I don't receive this type message. That was also by Reg Airmail and without custom duty.

1) What does it mean? Do I need to pay custom duty or await few days to weeks?

Even I bought same mobile from aliexpress via EMS Singapore shipping. My parcel is with mumbai customs since 2-Aug-2014. My status is also not changed since then.

Hi,

I have used Reg Airmail (Singapore Post). Previously, I bought one tablet via Reg Airmail WITHOUT custom duty. That's why, I order again.

They actually send item as gift and write value under 50$ to avoid custom duty or extra charges.

Other shipment like Fedex/ DHL/ EMS etc will have their own custom duty. They will contact and tell to submit documents (if required) to release from custom. They collect total custom duty at the time of delivery after clearance from custom. Here, custom duty is always NEEDED (most cases).

  I have to await few days and like to lodge complaint on RTI if I don't receive that within 7-10 days.

One of my parcels was labelled "Record item customs information (Inb), Air, CED KOLKATA    Retention reason : Awaiting presentation to customs commissioner". Its on its way to my address now. Reached local post office today. Hope to receive it on Saturday. Tracking details given below:

I suggest you to have patience  and not send any query to customs dept.


Regarding the delivery attempt query, as far as I know, post office makes 3 attempts to deliver a parcel before returning it back to source. If a contact no is provided, postman generally calls the consignee. When failed delivery attempt happens, you'll find a piece of paper at your doorstep left by the postman. If you didn't find any, then you know that its a false update. Postmen, on some days have to deliver more than 1000 letters/parcels on a SINGLE DAY (yes 1000. even 2000 sometimes). As you have already realised now, delivering even 1000 letters is not a joke! But they have to feed some update about the undelivered letters at the end of the day. And generally, "Unsuccessful item delivery attempt" is the most used option 

Rest assured the postman will deliver it to you. Anyway you can collect it from post office also.

My parcel is shipped buy EMS SG speed post, Thay have not contacted me yet for any documents I need to submit.

What do you suggest abt my detained parcel at customs, I have no updates / notice from customs or EMS post. Today is 12th day Mumbai customs holding my parcel.  

Anyone knows if customs have any site/URL to check status of detained parcel?

Hi Aniruddha.

You need to wait atleast 30 working days before thinking of contacting the customs dept. That's the usual amount of time they take to access and/or send you notice. EMS should take maybe 15 days. Just a hunch.

And the customs dept does not have any facility of tracking parcel clearance status.

Registered/EMS Parcels are generally not misplaced. In any case, if the parcel is lost, you should get full refund from the seller

I purchased more then 100 items from ebay, aliexpress, but this Time my percel stuck in customs, tracking no RQ208647122SG

At least your parcel moved to "Record item customs information" I think they will release it soon for Domestic delivery. Look at my status below its stuck since 2nd Aug 2014.

What is your shipping company? and what is item?

@Nairitb what is your item? Is it opened by customs? Please mention its package size approx. From my experience that incedent happen due to 15th aug.

Its a printhead cleaning kit. ~$6. Was not opened by customs. May be X-rayed. Package size is 10cm x 10cm x 12cm. And no duty as usual.
