i had some free time and me and my friend came up with this idea of making a helmet with Bluetooth headset connectivity. i had an old WP310 Samsung headset and i removed the fixed earphone and soldered in two noise-cancelling earphones then i hot glued the module(with the on board mic) near the mouth piece of the helmet drilled a hole for the extended button and led and finally attached a button made out of a nylon clevis. after final rerouting of headphones inside the helmet it was a complete success.

the padding in the helmet even isolated it from the wind noise.

so at the end of the day we achieved a helmet with a Bluetooth headset and a cool exterior answer/power on button with bright blue LED.

we ( i dont have license so i couldnot drive but i did the data recording and my friend did the driving) did extensive field(road) testing in the evening too, i had a helmet cam (my turnigy cam) attached to the helmet for onboard video also some external videos of powering up and the complete call recorded on my phone editing together a video will post it soon

not to discourage you..... nice effort on the camera...

but ...these Bluetooth enabled helmets are in the market  since 2yrs now.... we have leading manufacturers in belgaum... VEGA and VOLGA.... they have these....

but nice effort.... 

not at all aerovishwa no discouragement taken(if that means anything  ) we knew it already that they were there on the market but we just wanted to have a bit of fun

but again if you buy it then you would not be able to have the fun of putting i all together especially soldering the super thin wires of the earphone (i used my surgical loupes for it (yes i am a huge fan of the field of medicine and its wonders)) and figuring out how to make an accessible button and not a huge hole in the helmet, the thrill of it powering up the first time when the super bright blue led blinks thrice. its just so much fun to do something different every once in a while

why don't you work on a helmet mounted display hooking up GPS OSD focused at infinity, initially only limited info may be, (I Know they exist and have flown with one)

Thank you gusty sir for the suggestion i thought about that a while and have a few ideas

1 - using video goggles for the rider and a camera on the helmet to overlay the feed and then i could use the osd to get real time data
     (here video goggles will take care of the infinity focus) (conventioal FPV System)

2 - find out a way to overlay the osd data on the helmet wind screen by using a transparent led/lcd screen or partially block the wind screen on the sides (have to consult with people who have driven with a helmet for this one) with a conventional display(focused at infinity).

3 - have a screen inside the helmet like the targeting systems on helmets of fighter pilots

also if i could have the video feed from the mobile phone that would be nice too. I will get Working on the details of this new design right away

there is something called a Collimated display, easiest and safest (Afterall you need to drive too) way to project info on the helmet windshield

This is obviously a design for a simulator. Difficult to imagine a practical realisation for  a helmet.

For the rest, collimating means that the rays are parallel as opposed to convergent or focused.

collimated sight let you see the info projected at any focal length of eye lens, unlike a FPV projection where you need to refocus, the sights we use are called collimated sight, it found it use much later in sim field

Both of us are saying the same thing albeit differently, about what collimation means. I was referring to the "concept'' described as being that for a simulator. It will be highly impractical to use it for a helmet.

I have first seen (and thereby learnt about) a collimator, way back in the early 60s, at a camera repair shop. The parallel rays simulate an image at "infinity" and can therefore be used to check/calibrate the focus assembly.

unless the info is projected at infinity how can one see the info and the road at the same time? in that sense. like a fighter pilot's helmet mounted display and slewing system etc is a collimated display, with that you are able switch between bogies near and far without having to re-focus on the projected info

Any idea where I can get these helmets in Mumbai? Or any online store in India?
