Post by: asif on October 23, 2010, 03:33:14 AM
hello friends,
Its nice to see an active forum , most of my questions i had have been answered just by searching/going thru the threads  ;) .. thanks to all active participnts  {:)} ... im planing to buy a 35cc 4wd hummer 1/4 from ebay which is for 1050usd incl of shipping. the physical adress would be in hyderabad.. now i have two options here : 1, buy it from ebay and their ware house is located in texas... 2, buy it from aliexpress and their warehouse is located in mainland china ...  Price is almost the same however my only concern is the customs and duty.. can be a gift pck or reduced price ..not sure how that is gonna save on customs or if im liable to pay how much will i be shelling more  ??? ?? .. and if its stuck at the customs where id need to go for the clearance or claims ?  ... and which is the best option to buy it from ebay or aliexpress ?..

As far as customs go there are completely different departments, in each metro, that handle Air Post Parcels and EMS. My experience is that EMS is much quicker, both in terms of arrival and clearance. You can easily get to meet the concerned appraiser and present your case. Be warned that they are pretty clued up and may check prices on the net. With a new item there may not be much leeway for valuation. All depends on the specific person, his temperament, etc. And yes, THAT can be unpredictable!

Incidentally, for shipments from the US, Express Mail is the equivalent of EMS/SPEEDPOST and clears through the same channel.
