Title: Don't know anything about this subject, but...
Post by: K K Iyer on March 07, 2018, 11:55:29 PM
Noticing many posts admitting to not knowing anything about the subject but commenting nevertheless!
Possibly due to sheer enthusiasm!

Before posting on the forum, perhaps members (esp new ones), can consider whether it adds value to others on the forum or not.

It would be nice if people shared their personal experience, and not just internet links.

Pl look at the last 100 posts.
And see how many share personal knowledge and/or provide information of use to other members.

I wish that this forum would be a knowledge exchange platform for enthusiasts rather than a social one!

This happened in my case too, I asked about anyone ever did liquid rockets, some guy answered that he doesn't know about it. Answered.😂

@chiragthelegend12.
Just read my reply correctly.
I have asked one question in it, so that reply was not necessarily "unnecessarily".

@Chirag

These are just simple things that you can google. It's just two words. Literally, two words. 'Liquid propelled'.

Other members, seeing this post may also take it into consideration. Try googling first, and then if you're still left with some doubt, go ahead posting.
I shouldn't even be saying this, anyways.

Peace :hatsoff:

@chiragthelegend bro , I didn't blame you. It's just that you asked me what do I mean about liquid propellent and you don't actually know what is it. If you don't really know what you are talking about , then how do I know what you are really talking about?😂
Chill.

If goggle is there, then why there is need of forums??
Forums are a place of exchanging knowledge boundlessly, so why just limit it to big topics??

:hatsoff:

Limiting forums to big topic is not essential. I have made many small topics.
The essential part of forums is to share your new ideas. You can contemplate to various Rc Models. You can talk about new innovations. There are a million possibilities.

Take Karthick Ashwath's thread for example. Everybody contributed a lot to it. Finally, when I was doing my solar plane project, that thread helped me a lot.

However, silly topics are not welcome. There are a few expectations from new members. They should atleast have some knowledge. We have to answer the same questions over and over again. It's not a problem but if you know that the person has not taken any initiative on his own then you tend to get irritated. Do your research before asking a question. Maybe it's been already asked. Use the search feature. Maybe the first link showed by Google has the complete info of what you wanted to know.

When I joined the forum in 2013, it was so lovely. I used to log on every single day. Now it's got so boring . People come here only for their customs problems or to ask silly questions. There are few exceptions though.

I was recently talking to Stuart sir via PM. His handle on the forum is "propfella". We both became active at the same time on this forum. He too feels that the forum has changed.

I don't see any new projects coming in. I just see those monotonous "help", "customs clearance" or "Drone from Banggood seized" questions. Soon, the main RC Hub of India will die down. A lot of damage has been done already. Who wants that?

I am sorry for writing so much but this forum was where most of my knowledge was built up alongside Flitetest. I don't want it to end. Nor do I want to see it loose it's charm. Another pro of the forum is that you get to meet new people, make new friends and enjoy the whole country in a small webpage. This can't be lost.

I hope people do understand

Regards

This is a ghost town now. We hardly get more than a dozen posts a day. People are moving out fast to their cities own whatsapp group or joining Jim's RCindia group. Aren't you a member there yet? You are kidding right?

Well, I know what What's app groups are like.
People can't resist sharing stupid, nonsense posts completely irrelevant to the main purpose of the group. Further, the information sharing isn't properly categorized like in the forum.
I still haven't joined the RCI what's app group and never intend to. The forum is my home and this is where I stay.

The rate in which we are chasing away user shouting "JUST GOOGLE" or "SEARCH FIRST" soon you and me will be left only. ;D

I have been here since 2012 for 5 years , At the first 1 year it was boring , after that I became very active. Then It became boring again , then it got exciting again. And for the last 1.5 years , I'm very active again. Yes, this becomes boring if we us3 it like a chore. But I won't leave this forum ever. When I'm building or want to discuss anything, I come here again.

:salute: Veterans and heroes will be here always no matter how rarely they post. It's the enthusiastic newbies that will make things come alive. Once foot fall increases quality will shoot up. Take example for any shopping malls. Their main aim is to "sale" products right? then why do they waste space on open gardens and fountains and sitting arrangements, games for the kids. Marketing my dear friends marketing. Once you increase the footfall sales shoot up.

And just one word of request when a guest visits this forum whatever his/her intention is (may be customs only)... it's yours.. the senior's responsibility to stop kids of 11th std misbehaving with him.

In this forum, veterans, heros etc are not adjectives. They only indicate number of posts.

It's the enthusiastic newbies that will make things come alive.
Come alive? May mean entirely different things to different people. Social chitchat to some, technical discussions to others.

Once foot fall increases quality will shoot up.
Depends on what quality means. In Sep 2013, there were over 500 members logged in at the same time. Nowadays rarely exceeds 100-150. Since a huge number of posts now are about customs problems, and about how to avoid duty too, perhaps the quality has improved, considering there are queries, and answers even about importing shoes! Or perhaps those interested in this hobby just got fed up and left

Ah, aisa kya? Not sure how this is relevant. Only Anwar, the owner/admin of this forum can say

And just one word of request when a guest visits this forum whatever his/her intention is (may be customs only)... it's yours.. the senior's responsibility to stop kids of 11th std misbehaving with him.
This forum tries to avoid censorship

The intention is to get the focus back on the hobby.
If the majority are more interested in customs, buying and selling etc than the hobby, then perhaps the hobbyists have no option but to take a back seat, or leave...

P.S.
Just noticed that you've been a member for nearly two weeks...

I believe otherwise. We can start completely ignoring such vague 'customs' requests, at least from the newest members, with only 1 or 2 posts.

And posting about our experience in the hobby, on a regular basis by all the members will surely add the momentum. However stupid it maybe, everyone should be welcome to share them :)
Let's say I happen to short a battery today, or whatever that's called. Tried continuity test with a 3S fully charged LiPo. And it's consequences. PS: This thing really happened to me 4 years ago ;D
That's an experience. We can surely share them.
I believe sharing our daily experiences in hobby will bring everyone closer.

Hope I'm making some sense ;D

Maybe, that may start bringing back the crowd we had about 3-4 yrs ago.

Ban all customs posts, most posts are by impatient people that expect their parcels to clear the same day it arrives at customs/ people that don't bother to check what they can import and what they can't & end up with stuff being retained

The problem with this forum (and may be with the hobby itself).... some got an ambition to become a larger than life stature and create a very "Elite" group of people who will talk and "pm" to each other. New comers will worship to get some "attention".  But that's ridiculous. The hobby itself is not that popular.

Forgive my words...... but can't resist to phrase...

"Itna bhao khaoge to koi nehi puchega".

And we got a forum moved into a selling platform almost.

Let's stop all this. We can post build logs etc as much as possible. Though I am having exams these days, I'm free next month and will probably post many build logs those days.
Build anything, post it here too.

It's exam time, yes. You shouldn't be online then. 😋
I just completed mine.
I'll be posting 3 build logs in the upcoming months.
How about an turbo prop? Anybody want to see a turbo prop build log?
Maybe a Britten Norman-2 or Twin Otter or ATR-72 or Q400
Which do you want? I can't decide.

Really looking forward to see some build logs to learn from. Would you scratch build or get a laser cut kit first?

Title: Re: Don't know anything about this subject, but...
Post by: prabal276 on March 11, 2018, 10:56:40 AM
I always scratch build my planes. Laser cutting is too easy. Not a big challenge.

Everyone should scratch build. You may make plans , but make your own plans.
