Importing drones are prohibited in India. Unfortunately within few months flying may also be stuck in red tapes.  It's our bad luck.

If you had seen it selling in India, why should you have bought it from Aliexpress?
You have lost the whole money now, just for a few hundred bucks.

I'm really sorry if I sound to pessimistic, but it's the truth.

I too had faced a similar issue last year and I wrote a letter to customs saying to send it back from where it came, and I requested for a refund from the seller as well and I did get the refund amount too.

The customs guys too said they keep confiscating about 15-20 drones on a daily basis. and still people keep ordering them Angry

The one that I had ordered was a toy one with no camera still they wont release, anyway I guess all that flies or are Radio controlled is confiscated by customs.

True.

I don't understand why people keep ordering drones when they know the risk. I guess they take chance to get worried.

I believe the original question by the first post still remains. While the same type of drones are on sale on amazon India why the govt block them ??   Is it the buyer's fault that they are looking for reasonable price abroad??

Yes....it is surprising to see how not only Amazon but other LHS also make drones available in India.

There is absolutely no fault of buyers for looking economical items abroad. The problem is that one is taking risk knowingly by importing the banned goods. And again the buyer community is not at fault, it is the government regulators who draft such rules.

However, havind said that one can import motors and other RC stuffs at cheaper rates and assemble the quads by themselves. This can be an option.

You are exactly right Vipin, I took the risk I knew about 95% the parcel will get stuck in customs Smiley but that 5% was the luck I depended on.. well the reason i went to purchase this quad was I saw a video by an Indian guy on You tube where he said we can get this Quad for 1000/- bucks, and he too ordered the same way and he got it. I guess the mistake i did was when i ordered the prod I should have labeled with a diff prod which does not make this known...anyway....now many sites in India do sell these products... i got a Syma X5C from Amazon..... However these Quads cannot perform as expected...a little windy and it gets carried away....so why all this hussle and bussle that this can cause security issues... they are small quads cannot carry any heavy stuff though...

Don't worry. We all take risk. Yes, I also feel tempted by the price/items being offered. However, I restrain myself from buying anything which may stuck in customs.

If your parcel arrives, then good. If not, then ask the custom to send it back to the supplier and apply for refund.

Thanks guys it seems you've answered the question I posed in another thread. Why is your Government so against quadcopters? Is it for the safety aspects or simply the use of certain radio frequencies. I find it strange that almost every country in the world uses 2.4Ghz for WiFi and a million and one available gadgets, plus RC of course. It's commonly known as a garbage band, nobody wanted it until it was chosen for WiFi for that very reason. The Americans thought that it was so bad, nobody would complain if it was interfered with. Today it's possibly the most used band in the RF spectrum.

I notice somebody mentioned "Importing" is that the problem? It's illegal to import them. If you can buy them locally, how do those suppliers manage to import them. Or is it the way some are built?  Sorry for all the questions, but I was involved in legalising CB radio in Australia many years ago and it left with possibly the biggest question facing almost everyone.  Why do governments do what they do when nobody agrees with them. But then that is getting political and not knowing India's politics I'd better shut up. ...   Stu

Why I took the risk?

Because there was PayPal and Indian post which don't update tracking status once the drone is in customs!!

Really, really frustrating ! I bought a trainer (only wooden airframe ARF) with no engine, servos or radio from Dubai online. Even that has got stuck at customs ('anything that flies or can be made to fly by RC is generally a drone and cannot be released').  I spent a hefty amount in the purchase and shipping (of course - it was a known risk) and I feel extremely deflated. Earlier when such custom hassle was not there, but then good hobbyshops were also absent in India or selling limited variety, I had to request friends and relatives coming to India to bring them; today with so much online shopping freedom, custom is a big hurdle. It looks aeromodelling in India will only be for a lucky few !!!
