Ram Temperature Rise Anything above 5 mach is called hypersonic. In hypersonics, more of thermodynamics come into play. to put it simply, skin temperature rise due to forward speed is called Ram temperature rise. Thumb rule formula is  (V/100)² + ambient temperature. where V is speed in knots. 6 mach is approx 3600 knots (At that height) i.e 1296° F. Melting point of aluminum is 1220° F. Materials like Titanium and ceramics come into play here.
