Came across this very interesting site on futuristic trends  Head Scratching Head Scratching Head Scratching

http://www.hovercopter.com/

The UAV concept keeps coming up regularly now a days , with the predator , Global hawk etc being successfully used UAV's .

In fact the key note lecture at the MIT( Anna University ) workshop FLYSPAD was also on the growing population of UAV's .

So I  was just thinking it would be interesting to stimulate some thought here especially among young aspiring engineers on Automated Control systems  for RC Planes .

I think as a extension to this hobby some of you should try to develop and build automated flight control systems .

Guys like Subu  could start by trying to automate  at least one control parameter like the Pitch/Yaw OR Roll .

If students write to some of the micro controller companies asking for a free sample of a micro controller for  trail they do oblige in most cases .

During the above lecture at Anna Univ it was mentioned by a senior Defense scientist  that small countries like Israel are way ahead in this development because citizens like school students  are trying various concepts in this area as a hobby  and some of these developments are actually carried forward to application by the defense forces.

SUBU I THINK YOU WOULD BE ONE OF THE BEST CANDIDATES FOR SUCH WORK

This is just a thought though.

People have done such mods ("connecting two helis back to back in a Chinook like configuration") for a while now, using commercially available helis like the Raptor. These are referred to as "tandem" helis.

Some references.

PS: Wonder if the Captain would agree that this is true aeromodelling (per his definition) Grin   Giggle

VTOL - Vertical Take Off & Landing

thank u sai uncle for your belief in me
i have succesfully till now achieved full yaw and roll stabilisation in tandem and twin rotor aircraft and completing the work on pitch now. these are basically controlled by gyros and take a lot of time to tune as they have to be dialed in fully will post the video of my osprey and pulama on sunday and give a brief write up on the stabilisation systems .

Great Subu , Stabilization is step 1 control to make it listen to your command in auto program mode is step 2 take it to that level  Salute our country could do with many more like you.
