Title: Help me understand radio basics
Post by: Imperial fire on August 25, 2019, 07:24:23 PM
I never gave this a second thought b4 but have now that i am studying remote sensing.
Why are long range systems being called ULTA HIGH FREQUENCY systems..
They are running on say 900Mhz..
But 900Mhz is lower than say 2.4 Ghz that a cheap fly sky radio runs on...
Shouldn't it be called low frequency?

Or is it being called UHF in relation to the long antenna 70MHZ transmitters that we used in the old days?
Coz yes then i can understand why 900 is higher than 70..

But then a second question comes...
If lower is better why dont we still use 70MHZ Radios?

Am i mixing different concepts..?

I hear that 70Mhz is prone to intereference. 2.7 Ghz is over that . The 70Mhz tech used crystals ..... wonder if that was an issue handicapping its development.

Yes , it was interesting, and it was a part of my course in Geology when i was in College. Nice , you remembered me on that .
