Not right now but may be soon. India has invited tender for buying 126 MMRC fighters and Boeing FA-18 Hornet, Eurofighter Typhoon, Dassault Rafale, Lockheed Martin F-16IN, Saab Gripen NG and  MIG-35  are competing for it.

These are pictures of the wreckage (probably a composite of several wreckages) of a F 86 Sabre of the Pakistani Air force shot down somewhere in the Western Sector during the 65 or 71 conflict. It is displayed at the IAF Museum at Palam, New Delhi.

I am proud to have a piece (2 inches X 2 inches) of this wreckage and this is one of my most precious war memorabilia collection.

I regret that I will not be able to answer any questions as to how I managed to procure this piece of metal. Nor will I be able to prove its authenticity.

Cheers!

VC

Oh no! That would be stealing. I acquired it through respectable means. As I said, details/proof cannot be supplied here. Somebody will get into trouble. Besides, visitors cannot touch the wreckage at the museum, they can only see it from behind a chain barrier.

Well Pravven,

Some of us are luckier than the others. I too was allowed access to all the aircraft and photographed the Spit and Hurri from inside the cockpit. However, these are exceptions to the rule.

Our Defence Forces are bound tightly by bright red tape. Even a 60 year old aircraft is considered 'Top Secret'! Thus visitors / enthusiasts are kept away. I was also informed that if people were allowed access to the aircraft, they may be damaged. That was a good joke, as the Spit and Hurri cockpits had to be cleaned by a janitor before I could get in. The dust was about 2 years old. It is sad to see the state of the aircraft. Garishly painted from the outside with zero maintenance inside.

Regards,

VC

Now you are making me talk about something that I have been wanting to for a long long time! Thanks.

One of the rarest exhibits at the IAF Museum is the Yokosuka Ohka Piloted (Suicide) Bomb that was used by the Japanese during WW2. Very few examples remain in the world. Here are some photographs from Museums across the USA, UK and India. Spot the difference. I think I have mentioned somewhere before that I climbed into the empty engine bay to fish out an empty packet of pan masala, which some visitor had thrown there. Quite a priceless waste basket!

Look at the state of the Ohka cockpit. What should be there and what actually remains.  Bang Head
