Wow... wonder when/if this will translate into easy availability of CF rods etc locally.

India's first???  Shocked where was all the CF coming from so far??? N all this time i thought the CF was being manufactured in India  Sad
So the CF rods are so expensive because they r imported? That means locally manufactured ones would be significantly cheaper..

Unfortunately I'm sure this won't be the case medicineman. The new company has to recoup the enormous outlay for their factory and machinery and these days that recovery has to be as fast as possible. Gone are the days when businesses could use that outlay as a tax deduction. It's better for stock holders, if it's a public company, to see a profit ASAP.

The main exporter of CF is as usual China, hopefully their standards have improved as the carbon fiber rods and sheets I have in my spare parts cupboard is atrocious quality. HobbyKing sold it and the number of times I've seen the tubes literally fall apart when stressed made me wonder exactly what it was made of. I used it mainly for reinforcing wing surfaces and for wing spars.  That was quickly replaced with aluminium tubing to stop the "Dying Swan" effect when two wings decide to meet tip to tip in mid air.  Very embarrassing and rather costly.

Hopefully your manufacturer will be using more up to date equipment and better layering. Expect to pay for it, and if the quality is better than the Chinese version, you'll have CF which will last for years.  I love the stuff in aircraft used for FPV. It acts as a wonderful barrier to RF, meaning you can have flight controller and receiver one side of the CF and video camera and transmitter the other side, with less interference between the two. Whilst it's not perfect, with other screening methods it works well.  You just have to be careful with it acting as a very good electrical conductor.

We have three CF manufacturers in Australia and believe me they don't give it away. It's far more expensive than Chinese CF, but boy is it better. I managed to get some 2nd hand but unused from Ebay and it's well worth the money. As soon as it's available you should get some, you'll quickly discover how good it is when it's made correctly.  Just plan your holes well if you're going to drill it. Make sure you're using very good quality drill bits and have a few as spares, the stuff hates being drilled, especially with cheap drill bits.

Rats, I didn't check, I just resurrected a 8 year old thread.  Sorry guys, these threads keep popping up at the foot of the page. I'll check dates next time.
