Well... for the non initiated into the world of Blue Uniform.... well... the life is tough not to mention the least but GOOD (in fact better than most other jobs of this world).... After reading the thread over and over I just have to say one thing.... Just go back and listen to even Nehruji could not stop himself... also the world over the ones doing this with full passion (its not just a job... its your life).... the new generation song will sum up everything for you... Wish we had someone sing such a song for our heroes.
Best wished to all those who are still braving the extreme cold and harsh conditions.. who hve done it and the ones who will..

You should try to use this forum to attract youngsters to the Army like Gusty's pitch for the Air Force

I always thought Gusty's pitch was equally good enough for all forces.

Like in Air force not all are actually flying, Army too has its own share of tough life in some parts, though it has its own charm and glamour and its a good life in its own ways. I believe Instead of anyone canvasing for it, would be always better that a really motivated aspirant who is well informed through first hand interaction with forces guys who thinks he has it in him who is willing to go through with it volunteers for it.

For the motivated aspirants, SSB interview selection after the preliminary exams does an accurate assessment in identifying the one who actually has it in him for this glorious life. Like I was advised when I went through with it, it would be best if one goes through with it without any coaching and by being naturally yourself. Only those who gets selected has those temperament and qualities naturally and really has it in him for this glorious service. One who does not make it are those who will not be satisfied with this different lifestyle because of their nature and they will be better off and successful pursuing a different career for themselves.

Do you have it in you advertisement does a good job of attracting youngsters. Selection process does an excellent job of identifying and screening those who actually have it in him. unless he is a volunteer by personal motivation, he is better off pursuing a different career for himself.

I am not going to force even my son if he does not volunteers himself let alone pitching for anyone else.  Grin

Re:

+1 to sandy. Recently I met some youngsters who were army officer aspirants, sons of air force officers.
As for me, if not for flying I would've been in the navy, a naval diver.
Today pay is good. Life is challenging. And more than anything job satisfaction is very good.
All you youngsters should give it a shot.

Re:

For all who didn't know. Sandy was selected to join as a pilot in the IAF. his old man said "son I want your, at least one feet firmly on the ground, " so Air & Water was out. Land was in. So, he is, an assault engineer, the ones who lead any battlefield, even before infantry.

Gusty  Hats Off  Hats Off

I will be always be enthused, inspired and hold in high esteem my course mate, buddy with whom I have been fortunate enough to train with in Academy and a brother officer Col Saurabh Singh Shekawat,  Kirti Chakra, Shaurya Chakra, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal and many more commendations, the Indian Army's Living legend, Para Commando, One of the highly decorated officers of Indian Army, who I know closely, who has a Wiki page to himself, who has climbed Mount Everest thrice.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saurabh_Singh_Shekhawat

Pertinent extract from the page

"In 2005 he ascended Mount Everest for a record third time, having previously done so in 2001 and 2003. He has also climbed Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, and Mount Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps and Western Europe. In October 2009 he led the joint Indo-Kazakh team to scale the Kazakhstan peak of Marble Wall peak in Kazakhstan."

Till date Shekhawat has scaled 14 peaks.

He has an Indian Army's Official Facebook page on him (where rest of us are discouraged to have one)

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Colonel-Saurabh-SINGH-Shekhawat/569808136365342

Similarly, I will always be enthused and envious of Gusty, an illustrious and accomplished officer of many talents and more so because he is one of the best  pilots who I know very closely who is still living to tell the tales of it.

Sadly we all Forces guys have a huge embargo on what we can share in social media sites about our experiences and life in the forces due to security constraints. I am sure Gusty is also having his equal share of thousands of photographs like me of our life and experience in forces.

There is no words to describe the feeling and experience which you have of how you feel the power of god in your hands when you are inside that Armoured Fighting Vehicle, which you drive around on the most difficult terrain, including under water fording, float across deep water crossings, where most of civilian vehicles will not dare to enter, the roar of the 1200 BHP engine of the Main Battle tank, who's pulse you can feel in every nerve endings of your body, the thundering shock effect of the blast off of the projectile ammunition when its leaving the barrel of the main gun, the feeling of achievement you get when you make a bridge of 100 mtrs across a river overnight for a crossing, the sense of gratification and purpose you get when you are approached for the most difficult tasks which a common man thinks is not possible for him and when you are involved in an aid to civil authority during a natural calamity like flood relief, earthquake, the places where the forces has taken you, seen, lived and experienced which a normal tourist can only dream of, when you are held in high esteem proudly by your own parents, family members, friends and fellow countrymen, When you are seen by them as a dependable soul.

Like every other good things in life this too comes with its equal share of hardships and penance.

when you look back at your life and the experience the forces has given you, no amount of money can offer such sense of gratification, purpose and fulfillment, which is only fortunate to any other man who leads his life of greater purpose for a noble cause.

I may be old but i'm not dead.
On my birthday the best gift would be a call up.
Army, Air Force or Navy.
Chacha Commodore, Mama Brigadier, Chacha's son Navy Captain.
And having provided banking to 2 lac jawans,
I feel a right to be included.
North West, North East or West, or where ever,
I am available.
Forget youngsters, there must be many oldies just waiting to serve!

Gusty Sir,

We all are proud of you, Sundaram Sir & all service men.

Many of us are out of age for joining forces. But I will definitely encourage my son who is a 12th class student for joining.

Please take time to write how to join various forces. Students here will be encouraged.

What written tests and physiscal tests need to be passed in order to become a pilot?
If not in the airforce as a pilot then I'll like to join DRDO or HAL after engineering.

Well.. go with an open mind... no tensions.... and fell good about everything.... and have a positive mind...... you will get selected.  The ones selected are not super humans.... but the have those qualities and it helps them maintain their head in difficult times..... As for physicals... more emphasis is on overall medical fitness... mot many make the grade at hospital when the tests are done.  make sure you are in great health.... As for physical fitness... get into the Academy once they the academy with ensure that your physical fitness is up to the mark.
Best wishes

Today is Air Force Day, the 8th October. The Air Force Day was officially started celebrating at 8th of October in the year 1932 as an auxiliary air force of Indian Empire. Salute Salute Salute

So, it is the 82nd Birth Day. Let us all join the entire Nation in celebrating the Day. Clap Clap Clap

My ardent and heartfelt best wishes to all those dedicated people / personnel who are a part and parcel of one of the most proven force and factor in guarding the Nation and one of the best in the world... Hats Off Hats Off Hats Off

Fortunately for us, we are having some of those illustrious persons amongst us. May God bless them all with health, wealth and happiness.

We, such people whose aspirations fly, but feet never leave the terra firma ( I am One) are real lucky, I feel. The younger generation is to get the inspiration. Thumbs Up The onus to fulfill the need of the hour is on them.

Jai Hind  Jai Bhatath.
