Have your sim card blocked.
Wait for the police to do something.
Try to remember the last time you saw your phone and try to relive the last moments, you might remember something.

Finally, come to terms with your loss.IF it was stolen, chances are,you won't get it back.

PS:sorry for your loss.

its very tough, still you can try to do the following:

1. Take the copy of the FIR to your service provider office
2. Carry the phone Bill/EMI number along with you
3. Ask the customer support at the provider office to get the last location of the phone or any calls made or sim thrown away (then it will be more tough)
4. share that location & details with the police
5. you need to regular get the last location/phone call made to police.

not sure how big is your town, but chances are very low even if you provide the details, but still you can try as if the position of mobile is not changing much then you can have the area where it needs to be found, but give a try.  Even if you don't found now, give a try after 2-3 months (i know u can't wait that long or it may be not of that use) then the chances of the recovery is more easy even if the sim is changed.

best luck  Thumbs Up

if u have any hold on BSNL officers, then you will suerly get it.......... normally they will search for the signal with the IMEI no u have given , but for only a week  or less. most people who gets mobile will switch on the set only 2weeks or more due  to this reason

I had a funnier experience.Well, actually my brother did.His phone was stolen by someone (an HTC touch)and it was given for some repairy a few days ago.The guy who stole it went to the SAME shop to the SAME technician. The owner of the shop is a friend of my dad's.He called my dad and asked him if he had sent the phone. The guy was not alarmed. His address and number was taken. We called him and asked him to return the phone failing which the police would knock at his door.We got it back Grin

PURE luck.

As Sandeep said,if you have a contact in the Police department,it should be easy.

Finding it back depends on one thing only. That is whoever got it being not a professional thief. IMEI tracing is no more in business as its the first thing to get changed. if thats the case then u will never see it again. also get an insurance for ur next phone. good luck

IEMI getting changed? I doubt that. (as far as i know)
IEMI is hardwired into the handset by the manufacturer. This number is sent during every call or msg from the mobule station (phone in this case) to the BTS (base transmitting station) whenever the MS moves from one cell to another within the network. The IEMI is added to the blacklist in EIR (equipment identification register) of the service provider once a police complaint is lodged. So when the thief moves from one cell to another the MS sends IEMI + other identification numbers to the BTS and some other components in the network (HLR - home location register) check if the MS is blacklisted or not. So it is quite easy to identify where the thief is in the world quite accurately.
Now in a crowded town the cell area will be small due to heavy traffic so the easier it is to catch the thief.

I hope i havent put you guys to sleep Cheesy

IEMI is hardwired into the handset by the manufacturer.

by hardwired if u mean it can not be changed. Its quite simple but a little expensive. usually not done for cheaper sets. its done by changing the UEM/memory chip that is OTP (one time programmable). after changing it, the phone is untraceable. btw its illegal to change but i dont think they care.

PS- google it or find vids on youtube. if not u will find thousand of forums providing the info on how its done.

a friend mine lost his phone in our class room, the next we searched our whole room but couldint find it, so we filed a complait on police. my friend's father whose phone was lost  was an in army officer , who contacted BSNL . after a month the one who got the phone switched on the phone only after putting a new SIm . he was caught just because the BSNL was doing there job sincerely . He was the son of our colg sweeper , she got the phone while cleaning our class... The police was on there side , because the sweeper was the wife of a local CPM member, my friend was harrased in the police station due to that reason..............

Is it lost or do you think it is stolen??If it was lost, try to remember the last time you used it or saw it.You might remember something.

My father had left a phone on the top of his car and drove with it on the top.It stayed there. Grin

For all you know, you might have left it somewhere.

@rajthav
what if i say yes, the issues regarding IMEI litfire in kerala when it came to know that terrorist (when 10 malayali militants in kashmir) where using chinese phone which does not have imei no. so the phone without IMEI no was cut from the network. so certain shops where selected in each districts , and each IMEI no cost 200rs + installing fee, all the persons who want to put the IMEI no had to bring there proofs and and all the details about the IMEI no and there corresponding owner was given to the POLICE..... is ur doubt clarifed
