Have your sim card blocked.
Wait for the police to do something.
Try to remember the last time you saw your phone and try to relive the last moments, you might remember something.

Finally, come to terms with your loss.IF it was stolen, chances are,you won't get it back.

PS:sorry for your loss.

its very tough, still you can try to do the following:

1. Take the copy of the FIR to your service provider office
2. Carry the phone Bill/EMI number along with you
3. Ask the customer support at the provider office to get the last location of the phone or any calls made or sim thrown away (then it will be more tough)
4. share that location & details with the police
5. you need to regular get the last location/phone call made to police.

not sure how big is your town, but chances are very low even if you provide the details, but still you can try as if the position of mobile is not changing much then you can have the area where it needs to be found, but give a try.  Even if you don't found now, give a try after 2-3 months (i know u can't wait that long or it may be not of that use) then the chances of the recovery is more easy even if the sim is changed.

best luck

if u have any hold on BSNL officers, then you will suerly get it.......... normally they will search for the signal with the IMEI no u have given , but for only a week  or less. most people who gets mobile will switch on the set only 2weeks or more due  to this reason

I had a funnier experience.Well, actually my brother did.His phone was stolen by someone (an HTC touch)and it was given for some repairy a few days ago.The guy who stole it went to the SAME shop to the SAME technician. The owner of the shop is a friend of my dad's.He called my dad and asked him if he had sent the phone. The guy was not alarmed. His address and number was taken. We called him and asked him to return the phone failing which the police would knock at his door.We got it back ;D

PURE luck.

As Sandeep said,if you have a contact in the Police department,it should be easy.

Finding it back depends on one thing only. That is whoever got it being not a professional thief. IMEI tracing is no more in business as its the first thing to get changed. if thats the case then u will never see it again. also get an insurance for ur next phone. good luck

IEMI getting changed? I doubt that. (as far as i know)
IEMI is hardwired into the handset by the manufacturer. This number is sent during every call or msg from the mobule station (phone in this case) to the BTS (base transmitting station) whenever the MS moves from one cell to another within the network. The IEMI is added to the blacklist in EIR (equipment identification register) of the service provider once a police complaint is lodged. So when the thief moves from one cell to another the MS sends IEMI + other identification numbers to the BTS and some other components in the network (HLR - home location register) check if the MS is blacklisted or not. So it is quite easy to identify where the thief is in the world quite accurately.
Now in a crowded town the cell area will be small due to heavy traffic so the easier it is to catch the thief.

I hope i havent put you guys to sleep :D

IEMI is hardwired into the handset by the manufacturer.

by hardwired if u mean it can not be changed. Its quite simple but a little expensive. usually not done for cheaper sets. its done by changing the UEM/memory chip that is OTP (one time programmable). after changing it, the phone is untraceable. btw its illegal to change but i dont think they care.

PS- google it or find vids on youtube. if not u will find thousand of forums providing the info on how its done.

He was the son of our colg sweeper , she got the phone while cleaning our class... The police was on there side , because the sweeper was the wife of a local CPM member, my friend was harrased in the police station due to that reason..............

as far as i know , an existing  IMEI cant be changed... new IMEIs are isssued by government,  installing IMEI number for a mobile only costs <300....

dear i have apersonal experience with police , just do one thing if you dont have the contacts with police oficers, just ask for moblie tracing cell near by u, simply a constable will tell u, and go there directly , bribe them they will recover it.

IEMI is not issued by government it is issued by manufacturers ONLY! (unless im wrong)

Warriorair have you changed IEMI for <300, or your friends or someone?

@vineet : this may be an open forum but being so open about certain things may not be good :)

Is it lost or do you think it is stolen??If it was lost, try to remember the last time you used it or saw it.You might remember something.

My father had left a phone on the top of his car and drove with it on the top.It stayed there. ;D

For all you know, you might have left it somewhere.

Today I found a new icon in my blackberry which was "blackberry protect", its really a great app, now all my contact and messages will autometically (on weekly basis) saved on blackberry website.  {:)}

In case of theft or lost mobile, I can lock my blackberry by logging in the website, i can flash message on the screen of my phone or i can delete all the data on my phone (to avoid misuse).  Best thing is I can also track my blackberry online (if its switchd on and can have a little access to GPS satellite).

Hope to see such Apps for other phones.

iPhone had this functionality for a while now.  Blackberry seems to have duplicated that.

, I guess its high time to have such functionality in all the phones. I remember years back I use to remember more than 100s of phone numbers...and now  :headscratch:....if I lose my phone I don’t even remember my dad's number  :banghead:.

Now with every new advancement we should be having a backup for the same like with mobile phones commending our lives we left the tradition of writing the numbers in a diary and sometimes we have to suffer a lot for the same........ :banghead:

i saw in a site that 30% of cell phones are sold as a replacement for stolen or lostphones...... so its sure every company wont be interested in  such Facility.........  :'( :'( :banghead:

I did have to pay anything at all... Well done by Kerala Police...

That is why CPI(M) Completely washed out from Bengal. God is Grate. :hatsoff:.

But sad to inform you that my cellphone also got lost. It was a Samsung Ch@t322. I have the IMEI No. Can anyone guide me?

I have Locked the sim calling Service provider helpline and he verified me about the last recharge amount. And I politely asked hm about the last call I have received and any activity after that. He replied that there is no activity of that simcard after that.

What I have to do? General Diary or FIR ?
Here, in any police station, making GD is easy but if you have to make FIR, you have to wait for the officer in charge if he is at site. And is the FIR/GD copy is to b submitted to tracing dept ? It was with 8GB memory with some of my official document (of course cannot be opened by phone, but in computer as pendrive.)

And the more sad thing is that the happings...

on monday, I went to buy some fireworks for Diwali from some home manufacturing unit for qualit (Purchased 150 Nos rocket which can fly 80-140 feet for Rs.135/100nos.) with some colleagues. After getting down of the last person, Rohit rang me and after conversation, I keep the phone in my pocket. But before get down, while arranging everything, my papers felt down and make a mess while they all loose paper came out. Then I arranged them in plastic and got down. And after entering in home found relatives in drawing room and so I entered in other room, changed dress, but cannot remember the phone was with me or not.
But during getting down, I checked the cell phone in my pocket by feeling over pocket about size, with hand. And the next day was Laxmi Puja.

On twesday (Laxmipuja) my first cell phone (6yr+ with 900+ numbers sim-less TataIndicom Neo) was rang at 2PM and talked with one of my metrorail friend about some troubleshooting. But my mom called for lunch several time and lastly disturbing me for taking the lunch. Then I become so angry and throw the phone to wall. and gone for lunch and afterwards bath and gone to roof for gardening. At evening, got down and fixed the set but found It's OK but the screen breaks into pieces. Now I cannot see any number and dial. only can receive.

And in next morning, as i cannot get my new cellphone during office, i give call from landline to trace it hearing ring, (I do this frequently as my house flooded with materials) but surprised that it was off. Now my first doubt that I charged full in sunday evening and keep charging till monday 9am, used for 10-12 minutes, and it cannot be off. Generally it gives me 4-6 days battery backup with normal usage incl. all song, radio (Not Tx) playing. but on monday i have not played even radio. dialed my driver and he told that only one person have travelled on holiday and he is his friend. But during getting down, he take something black from back seat where he sit and he did this with hazitation. but he cannot cared that. After my phone he dialed him, but the person disagree. My driver told me that if it was left in car then he or the person, one will be the culprit.

But the new phone lost and old screen damaged and the screen not available in market.
Contact-less within one day. :(

Locked the sim on Wednesday evening, and purchased new guru1085 for rs.1050/- got new sim instantly to start with and now trying to activate mobile tracker.

This is history of me phone lost. that model was a good model (with good time pass in car watching movie/enjoying song), good contact keeping, quetry keypad helps me saving name etc. and above all no fear for virus infection and software reloading. Very good quad band coverage. It's actually a basic phone with common feature looks advanced for Rs.3700/-

 # But now does any GPS enabled phone have mobile tracker like option ?

Are you sleeping ? ;D

Thanks and hope for better.
Thinking to make GD and go to Lalbazar (Police headquarter) next morning.

Is my purchase bill photocopy needed with my application ?

kalyan ,
sure any mobile can be traced regardles of the features like gps and all, but first activate the mobile tracker on your new phone , and then just ask the locall mobile tracing cell.
