RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

From the Youtube video description :

Quote
April 29 suburban airfield Chkalovsky nearly crashed Tu-154B reg. RA-85563 belonging to the Ministry of Defence. Hardly soaring, the liner is strongly tilted, then the crew with an enormous effort put him back on the strip. No injuries were reported. Tu-154B-2, tail number RA-85563 first flew in 1982, almost 30 years ago. From the first February 1983 - as part of the Air Forces of the USSR and then Russia. Since 2005 - was in custody at a military airfield near Moscow Chkalovsk. April 29 crew under the command of Yuri Rodionov had to overtake the plane to Samara on the repair works. But the flight lasted just over ten minutes at the lowest possible altitude. Realizing that the ship is actually out of control, the crew decided to put it. Situation greatly complicates the wind rose: "carcass" actually talks in three planes. Pilots are coming to the first round, although it seems from the plane just falls over the forest. Hiding behind trees, in a minute jet reappears in the sky. Pilots overshot past the runway and start a new entry, which eventually ends well.

It was controlled only using differential engine thrust !

Quote
29 april 2011 at Chkalovsky Airport (military airport base 31 km northeast of Moscow) TU-154 RA-85563 experienced serious trouble right after take-off. The automatic control system (АБСУ) broke down wich caused the pilots to steer the plane using only engines. The plane was made in 1982 and since 2005 never flew. The pilots were ordered to fly the aircraft to Samara for repairs. Luckily the captain Radionov is a very experienced pilot. If not for his skills the plane would definitely crash. The Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Air Force Alexander Zelin will award the pilots for their actions. The plane in result got no damage.

Post accident on faulty hydraulic, pilots tried to land with throttle alone, post this PCA (Propulsion Control Aircraft) came about

Here is the link for the NASA document,  lot of Tech Jargon, specific questions can be asked , will answer them to the best of my ability

+1 to Wing Co. Just want to understand, in PCA you can only control the thrust, then how you manage the landing distance? I mean before landing you should be have a minimum touchdown speed without which it will Stall or overshoot the runway........ flaps help to attain this speed, how this is managed in PCA?

one more thing, how to steer the aircraft if its a single engined one? given the fact that there are no hydrolics in the plane.

PCA is possible with thrust asymmetric, not normally possible with one engine (Though not impossible) PCA is done by the Fly by Wire Computer, you control inputs will remain the same, however instead of the control surface, computer controls your aircraft using asymmetric thrust, because of thrust drag couple acting like a 'couple of force' pitch control too is possible. Flapsless landing will be possible, touchdown speed will be high, after landing reverse thrust should be able to stop the aircraft.

Did i answer the question ?

alright
Research is on on single engine and non-hydraulic rudder control, (Some kinda electrical servo controlled rudder) to give opposite side drag. not successful yet. should be online soon, problem is FAA clearance as a safety device. AFAIK
