Title: NGH gasser not starting
Post by: Aeroresurrect on December 12, 2020, 01:03:46 PM
New 9 cc engine petrol engine refuses to start.
Have checked all common issues - spark timing, spark plug and actual sparking, fresh (revised price) petrol with 2T oil mix, battery volt at 4.8V for the CDI ignition, but could not detect any problem.
Any experienced gasser can give me suggestion on this starting issue ?
I dont have an electric motor starter, manual flipping is tiresome...

I am no gasser expert, but i had issue with my DLE 30 engine, engine was last run back in 2014 and was sitting ideal till 2018, it wouldnt start either, so with the help of a fellow aeromodeller i was able to get it running. The ignition system everything was fine, the issue was the engine wasnt sucking in fuel from the tank on close inspection we found out that the diaphragm in the carburettor (Walbro) was dried up since it was never used in the last 4 year, so this dried up carb diaphragm prevented fuel from being sucked in. so all we did was manually squirt some fuel on to diaphragm until it was completely wet out and then flipped the prop till we saw fuel being sucked in and then the engine started to work.

Hope this helps you out!

Mohammed Naveed

Thank you Naveed, for your suggestion.
While priming the engine, I did see petrol getting sucked from the tank to the carburettor (on choking the air intake). Will this happen with dry pump diaphragm ? I also squirted fuel thru the air intake. Still no result.
Do I have to open the pump unit to check it out ?? (Did not feel like disturbing the factory set up of the new engine).....

If its sucking in fuel then not an issue, see if you can feel fuel entering the cylinder and oh I forgot to add a tiny detail we used an electric starter to get it running the first time after the first successful ignition we were able to start by hand cranking.

Thank you Naveed.
I too felt that an electric motor starter should be used first time, only problem is I dont have one.
Anyway, it has become a necessity now, especially as the 4-stroke nitro also behaves quite obstinately at times.
I spoiled a new glove in the hand-cranking process.

Electric starter makes the job easy!
