Friends look at this report from TOI:

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Pakistan-military-claims-to-shoot-down-Indian-spy-drone/articleshow/48085976.cms?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=TOI

The drone in the picture seems to be a phantom. Does Indian defense use Phantoms as spy drones??

Maybe some Pakistani Soldier was trying to fly a Multirotor and then the rotor went out of control and he lost his phantom to a crash! In order to cover up this he claimed to have shot some spy drone that came from the Indian side...thinking of getting an incentive that would help him buy another Tongue  Giggle

Anyone who has actually been to Bhimber Gali would know that this claim is sheer nonsense.

Perhaps the Army can arrange guided tours for civilians to know what defending the borders is really like.

For example, how many people would know that Kargil is actually a bustling market place where you have traffic jams on the main street?
Or how toilets work in Drass or Leh in winter.

@sundaram sir
@rcpilotacro sir

Perhaps you may like to share what life in border areas is really like. Other than Army and Air Force types, perhaps only SBI and P&T types have such exposure...

If Pakistan had sent such a drone into India, our Government would have imposed a blanket ban on flying drones in this country  Giggle

What you said seems much more rational!
There must be a way to find out who bought it though, right? Don't these things have serial numbers or something?

Do you guys really think THE INDIAN MILITARY uses white colored quads for recon in broad daylight! This is just a classic example of "Return to Home" not functioning! lol...
Indian Navy & The Indian Air Force uses Israeli drones (IAI Heron). They wouldn't have a clue even if we were on an Over Watch!

I feel its not the government but again some idiots who flew the phantom close to the borders..and since phantom can fly upto 5 km (as shown on some youtube videos), I believed it crossed the border and then the Pakistani army destroyed it blaming it on the Indian government. Our government would never use Phantoms, India is far advanced than that

Good One Sir! Hope this sends out a good message to those confused with DRONES
But the GUY IN COAT  clearly says that multirotor doesnot fall under DRONE category then why so much confusion going around related to it?  Undecided

@mohitgurjar

Less chances, everyone knows its hard to bring a rc stuff near border area is not a easy. and  flying with camera really not easy for a civilian.

More acceptables are in the timesofindia page itself as well as some top replies in this thread.

@divya99

do AajTak put that on youtube?

Good analysis Divay. These DJI phantoms have a bad reputation of 'Fly away'. This may be one such case and the pak army thought that it was a spy drone from India and shot it down! So not necessary that some hobbyist is flying that quad in LOC, but may be in some town closer to LOC and it got drifted away! The Pakistan army is so dumb that they can't even differentiate between a quad and a real drone!!  Giggle

Drone shot down by Pak army was flown from India, says ISPR
MATEEN HAIDER — PUBLISHED 38 minutes ago

ISLAMABAD: The army said on Monday that the data retrieved from the spy drone shot down near Line of Control (LOC) by Pakistani forces on July 15 provides irrefutable evidence that it was flown by Indian Army for reconnaissance inside the Pakistani side of LOC.

"An Indian drone (Quadcopter) mission was flown on July 15, 2015, by India in which it intruded from Indian Occupied Kashmir(IOK) Jaurian Sector and was flying over Own Banchirian Sector (near Bhimber), when it was shot down by Pakistani troops," Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in first ever detailed statement following the incident.

The Indian authorities denied Pakistan’s claim that “it had shot down an Indian spy drone”, whereas, photos & videos recovered from the internal memory of quadcopter provides irrefutable evidence that it was flown by Indian Army for reconnaissance inside Pakistan side of LOC.

According to ISPR spokesman, an image retrieved from the quadcopter proves that after the purchase of this quadcopter it was taken inside ASCOM office (an Indian telecommunications company).

ISPR said another pre-flight picture indicates presence of an Indian soldier (can be identified from Indian uniform) standing in the vicinity of quadcopter.

“Irrefutable forensic evidence obtained from the quadcopter, now available with the Pakistan Army, also gives out geographical histogram about locations traversed by quadcopter between July 8 to 15, 2015, and these can be verified by any independent sources,” the ISPR spokesman asserted.

According to data released by ISPR an image, probably taken before test flight of the quadcopter upon its arrival in forward areas, indicates company headquarters of the Indian Sector.

The image taken by the quadcopter immediately after flight from a post shows an Indian flag which proves that it started its flight from Indian post, ISPR stated.

“Other pictures give full aerial view of the Indian Post and also reveal full view of Indian side of LOC,” it added.

“Initially it kept flying close to the LOC and carried on its surveillance facing towards the Pakistani side, then it crossed over LOC and pictured a Pakistani post (Pakistani flag marginally visible),” said the ISPR statement.

The ISPR said that since June 9, 2015, 35 ceasefire violations have been committed by Indian troops.

"India is exhibiting aggressive posturing through enhanced movement of troops, extensive reconnaissance, targeting of civilians and increased use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Drones violating airspace of Pakistan," ISPR said.

Either they planted pics from their "sources" or some of our geniuses were wise enough to choose & fly around this quad with onboard recording, which even a kid could recover even if deleted many times over. This firefight is gonna be fun.
