Well-spent day on flying field brings happy sleep

Hello all.

Just planning to build a nitro balsa glider. I came know about Apple Box glider from Sharma model. But, I couldn't get enough information about the plane. I am looking for some reviews such as building tips, performance and building pictures.

Thanks for look at this topic.

Don't wake a Tiger until you've factored the teeth

I had built the forerunner of this, India Hobby Centre's Orange Box in the 80's

1. Building: Straightforward uncomplicated Balsa "build-from-plan"  ie construct on top of the plan
2. Performance: it is a trainer. Easy to fly, predictable. Experts will use power to gain height, then try and catch a thermal. Can stay aloft for a very long time
3. No build pictures, but try googling both Orange Box & Apple Box
4. Nitro/Diesel or electric can be used.

For further queries contact Mr. Vivek Sharma at Sharma Models

@satz flying,
Sathish sir,
Outerzone.co.uk has plans and 2 articles by the designer of the Orange Box.
The original without power was 28oz, or some 800gms.
You could build one now, with electric power, well within that weight.
If you want glow power, remember that VERY little power is reqd.
A Cox .020 in the nose, or at the most a Cox Babe Bee .049 on a pylon.

Building an Apple Box kit from Sharma Models will be far easier than building an Orange Box from scratch!

What engine were you planning on?
Regards

"I m not afraid of storm' m learning how to sail"

Hi,
It’s a good glider for learning and soaring. Wingspan is 2 mtr with flat bottom aerofoil and slightly dihedral.
The kit comes with the plan, easy to build and need some building skills. For strength plywood is provided in fuselage on which engine could be mounted, it has single wheel under carriage.
(Engine recommendation: 3.5-4.5cc)
(You can use 15 size nitro or equivalent motor)
We flown her with 2.5cc diesel engine (no cab no throttle), we use to fuel it for the flight of around 1min and after engine cut sailing and gliding. Whenever it caught thermal it’s our luck.
She has a great gliding ratio, as it’s a 3 ch glider only elevator and rudder control “so no lateral axis control”.
Perhaps wings are dihedral so it’s stable but often some time I wished it could have rolling movement. She had a high speed at the time of landing so Space is needed for landing.
As my flying experience of apple box I decided to add aileron, air brakes and flaps for some improvement, but I couldn’t do so.
Over all it’s a great glider in it class.

Regards,
Nitesh

it's 2 or 3 year old project, i had only these pics in my pc.
