I don't think so. Just look at the consequences of retracting too soon.

Of course the answer is obvious :) 

The question is... what prompts them to try to stow the landing gears without even reaching like 100ft ?  Are they THAT much of a drag ?

Why "dumb pilot"??? The guy was able to prevent the plane from becoming a fireball despite the whole run on the ground!!!

I would say, this is one heck of a pilot who "can bring a plane to a stop without landing gears". Most planes would end up otherwise under similar conditions.

Hmmm... I remember many years ago an IT boss (senior manager) telling his system administrators (the ones with pony tails!) and database administrators that they are getting paid better than many others mostly "for just not screwing up" !  They handle critical stuff, and leaving them as is with care during routine operations is a better skill than messing up first and then showing heroics in cleaning up the situation ;)

We don't know what happened in this case, it could just be equipment malfunction !
