RC hard when you RC. Study hard when you study.

I do think of my car quite a lot of times but try to make sure it doesn't get in the way of studies....

+1 to iamahuman.

I would say that you need to manage your time such that you balance work/studies with RC or any hobby.

For example: if you have planned for a movie with friends, you would make sure that you finish your work/studies before the movie and make time for the movie.

In the same way, allocate time for work/studies and for RC.

Generally most of the people RC during weekends or in the morning and remaining time they work/study/give time to friends and family.

Thinking about RC is not bad while sleeping or bathing or even during the class but trust me, if RC hampers your studies then no one is going to like it weather your friends or family.

And I do not think anyone in this forum would also encourage you to RC if your studies are effected.

Studies come first my friend, and you can pursue RC in parallel as well without effecting your studies/work.

If RC is your business all together then that's a different thing.

Always wanted to start this discussion.Working people with kids is all the more tough since time at work, time for family, time to shop hardly amy time left for RC. Weekends all the more demanding.
Now I see as the early morning time on weekdays as the only time for RC builds.

Rooster, you got it friend.  Clap

You can always make time for what you want to do. You just need to make-up your mind.

But do set the expectations with family such that your weekend morning RC does not become a reason for a fight.

Speak out and set some time like 2-3 hrs. and let your family know you will be back in that time and that is for yourself.

And do stick to that time and do not over do the time else you are in for some trouble.

High spirits we have: gravity we flout.

Not true if you add a toddler to the mix. Hobbies were easy when i was studying, easier when i started working, not very difficult when I got married.. but as soon as my daughter started crawling.. every thing changed..
They are fast (swiftly crawly away from the safe place you left them so that you can work on your model)
They are loud (start shouting or making loud noises if you don't pay attention)
Menace by nature (find your plane and rip its tail off)
They don't understand commands (my 9 month daughter just starts laughing if i try to scold her)

Basically they are keeper of your time Thumbs Up

Hey sunlikestar share the toddler situation with you. My 18 month daughter needs to my TX antenna to nibble on. time demand from her is utmost priority.my conclusion morning 2 hrs on weekdays best time to build. sail in my case is for an hour in weekend afternoon only.

that is big question always for me and my friends in RC flying.
before marriage i manage time for RC activity, but after marriage & birth of my child things were changed.
i m just hopping between the time and work.  Head Scratching
whenever i get time i just jump into my hanger to work.
i think in todays ARF/RTF world its bit easy to built and fly, but that was not case earlier, in Balsa kit built era i have
dedicated days to built the plane.
so do the things which come in front of u....cheers  Thumbs Up  Thumbs Up

HYDRO PLANER.....

it all fells to your living situation and ambitions.. if you have a dream, or if your parents have a dream about your future life, "as something like this",you can hold your RCying as your hobby.. means as a pastime..only as a hobby.. so, no seriousness.. you can dream all about RCying, in anytime, as we dreams many as in many times.. it is easy to concentrate in studying subjects while studying.. but if you are too serious in model making and RCying, again its all up to you.. as no one can predict our future, it is not possible to say anything about it.. once my parents considered me as a time waster.. with RCying and modelling works.. but today all respects me, when i started making money from my modelling works.. and too proud of me, as 99% of my works signed for our Nation.. its too satisfying.. so, in this era, getting in to RCying is inexpensive, and creative, but you must follow your ambitious root, if you have a clear idea or dream about your future works..  Hats Off

Sideways forever

I love RCing, but i have never been obsessed with it, i have had too many bad experiences with life and obsessions in general to know my priorities and how much is too much.

Thinking about RCing all the time is fine, but not being able to get your mind off it when you should, is not healthy. That is obsession.
For students, if you are really passionate about it, think of it this way -
I will have to do x hours of serious study or set some goals, (like x number of maths problems, questions, chapters, topics etc) before i can indulge and reward myself with quality time with your beloved RC model. If that isnt enough motivation, are you are THAT crazy, think of it as "sacrifice i have to do for my RC hobby".

Not only you will have your business taken care of, when you are spending time on your RC hobby, you will feel great about yourself, and love it even more, and probably it will motivate you even more. Just try to turn your obsessions work for you, if this is your weakness, make it your strength, let it have positive effect on your life. After all its also some kind of love.

I am not married, but i have some colleagues in US, they are fathers, on being asked, they tell me, it is a perfect way to bond with their children, a guy i know told me he got close to his son via this hobby, and his son loves him more. This sounds filmy but it is true.
So when your children grow up, i guess you will have a "RC buddy" with you.

And i think RC is much better than other hobbies, it will move your children away from TV/computer, give them sense of responsibility and ownership. Not to mention sense of satisfaction apart from excitement and fun. In some cases, financial management too, when people are saving to get their dream stuff.

And those who are married and have little ones, can always tell their family that they need some time for their own place of "Zen" and to keep your sanity, i am sure families will understand.  Wink

Personally on being asked by my parents "Arent you a little too old for this stuff?" I replied, "this project was an engineering endeavor for me, and i had to take a little break from the crazy world of mine, where i can contemplate life and other things".

Even though all my "engineering endeavor" was, buying a kit and assemble it as per instructions, which any species with opposable thumb can do, but they didnt need to know that  Grin

haha...nice

You know what happens is that i study 4am -9 am in the morning(I am a morning learner), and then take a break, then i think,ok its my break time so lets have some youtube and rci and fb for 1 hour and by 10 i will be back to study, but actually i never get back, i start from 9 and then i stick to my PC for another 3-4 hours, then i think, lets have  the lunch and then i will start studying, then i wait for tea time and then for dinner and then i finally decide to follow a good schedule from the upcoming day. Its a sort of procastination.
