"Police said people, who fly drones without permission, could be imprisoned for six months or fined Rs 1,000 for endangering life."

If they're worried about endangering life, perhaps they should start fining the crazy bike drivers too! I almost get hit by a bike every day just walking to work!

Well its both... a matter of Safety and Security...  The DGCA has put a Ban on it and that's how it is in black and white....  As and when the DGCA comes with clear guidelines.... well we do need to have some sort of permission from competent authorities to fly them...  That's the legal aspect of the whole story.

u can do so in RC clubs. Police cant say that they are pressing chargers for safety of others there at least. as of now, just to avoid trouble, do not fly in public areas, cities or near a media sensitive area. and its like shobhit17 said, the rules and regulations are still black and white.

I mean to say the regulations are in Black and White.... i.e. absolutely clear and in writing..... no guess work.

My experience with cops are completely different. I was flying in my college's sports complex and there where few beat marshals(cops on the bikes) outside. Hearing the buzz sound of the miniquad they came in to see what it was. I was quite scared at the sight of two cops coming towards me, but it turned out to be completely different. They just started asking basic stuff how much did it cost to build, how high can it reach stuff. I even offered them the remote to operate it but they declined  :giggle:. They asked me about the safety and reliability of the quad. I showed them my friend who was my spotter and explained how safe it was if operated properly and they seemed quite impressed.
What I believe is while flying keep your eyes open, avoid historical or any public spaces(and if unavoidable get a permission or inform the cops about your activity), behave properly and calmly if questioned by cops, always have spotters and check your equipment before flying!

The thing is without a clear regulation or law it's hard for even cops to contemplate what is to be done. As a matter of i read  an article in Times of India that cops hat to let off a flyer as the Civil airport authority and airforce official gave cold shoulder to police. So he was let off with Rs 100/- fine.

Hey Rohit can you please circulate this article from DGCA which says NOC from police is required.  I have not come across it and it would be nice to have that information.
