Title: Very few RC activity in India
Post by: deepikarun on October 13, 2016, 02:50:43 PM
Hi All,
This forum used to be buzzing with lots of activities. Nowadays i find that there are very few posts or activities here.

Wonder why ?

Because of the BAN or is it that people think it is prudent to pursue the hobby silently.

Dont know why? or is it that many have lost interest in the hobby.

Whenever i get time i always go thru my old posts and cherish those moments when the greats like Anwarji, Sushilji and Gusty bhai used to help me out in my doubts.

All those posts are a real treasure to me & the new comers.

I guess it's mostly the ban.

Thanks to Mr. Rajkumar for his hard work in getting permission from ATC and Local Police Station.

We are able to enjoy this hobby every week.

I think it is possible elsewhere too.

Its raining here in Coimbatore..... ;D

@deepikarun Excuse me, but what ban? Is it restricted to fly drones etc in India? Or what? Sorry if I sound like rude but I'm not...

See this thread and the notice by DGCA in the first post.

All those posts are a real treasure to me & the new comers.

As far as I can make out, there seem to be 4 types of members:
1. Those who have something to sell
2. Those who are looking for something to buy
3. Those who are looking for info about customs, couriers, feedback on LHS etc
4. Those who would like to discuss aero issues

A year or two back, we managed to get category 1 off the main board.
Despite trying, we have not so far been able to move category 2 & 3 off the main board
Maybe because then we'll have nothing left for the main board...

Looks like many of the older members no longer post, as there is nothing of interest to them.
Perhaps the reality is that we are more into the commercial aspects than the academic ones.
If so, guess I'll just have to live with it...

After the DGCA ban and the failure to come up with the regulations, it has been difficult to pursue the hobby. To add to it, the prevailing atmosphere of "terrorists planning to use drones" or "Pakistan planning to use drones to attack India", nobody wants to pursue the hobby publicly. If you are caught flying anything or even write about it, who knows...you might be branded a terrorist or a Pakistani agent.

So people either prefer to pursue the hobby silently or some may even have scaled down their activity. New people won't join because there is hardly any scope to pursue the hobby and components are becoming difficult to procure.

I come to know that while seeking permission from the ATC, they made it very clear NO DRONES.

I hate DRONES, i have seen people without any flying experience flying these things all around the place without knowing the risk involved.

A few incident involving these so called drones in the hands of novice is the prime reason for the ban.

Especially those " know it all" types who throw cash and buy a phantom only to crash it into a building like a mini 9/11 and make headlines in TV for
forsaking security. Even our 200 gm or 500 gm airplanes are questions while our helis and quad are looked upon as threat even if the dont have a camera!
