Well if $ is going up then i think few of the LHS may think about increasing the price,

as product cost increases, shipping cost increases and then duty also increases.

I am thinking to increase prices of few products not all

but its very very very sad Sad

Look at it from the other side - this will
benefit exporters who get paid in dollars eg: tea

True saikat India is the no 1 place in tea exporting.  That's a benefit for us.. still there are more than 100 products we are importing for each product we are exporting...
So hike in the dollar rate is really a big problem...

Well even we are on of the culprits arent we? importing so much from HK we are also a part of the reason the rupee has gone down. Sad
I think if we were a developed nation we wouldnt have to import anything everything will be manufactured here, but as pravesh said politicians just slow down the process of development and corruption just keeps on going. I think if we go below 65-70 Rupee per $ then recovering may even take above 6 - 8 months  Sad

Second you Neil. A lot of things can be manufactured inhouse, and we have all the human, material and intellectual resources. Atleast some basic stuff can be easily manufactured in machine shops and basic electronics.

When I go through the posts in the for sale forums, I see so many things that can "professionally" produced (case in point, collets, spinners, bushings, shafts, screws, bolts, LED lights, flashers, radios, wheels, nylon mounts, clevis, control horns, motor mounts, power distribution PCBs, fuel tanks, nylon nuts, quad frames, Zip ties, Velcro bands, fuel pumps, glow boosters, LiPo chargers and so many other items...). Agreed they will be expensive for producers due to order quantities, but we will still hit the same price (or, optimistically, lesser) and avoid a lot of custom issues, provided the margins are reasonable. So its gotta start from within the community. We already have many on the forum who're into manufacturing industry, have their own manufacturing units, and some of the senior members have taken the charge of providing in house stuff already. I am just hoping the demand increases, and the community can excite more people to produce in house stuff. And MII has still higher QA standards than MIC.

PS: I'd love to start producing small stuff at home, like the Chinese, but then the wife has to be Chinese as well >Cheesy.

PPS: Totally understand that much of the raw material also comes in from China, esp for electronic stuff, but yes the majority of the cost is upped due to margins and paying capacity of the first world consumers

Girish sir that is true, whatever you are saying is being developed already like ball bearings and stuff it just isnt available easily in the local market. If you go online and want buy ball bearing from indian manufacturer you have to buy in bulk and that isnt viable. I think whoever can manufacture stuff in house and sell it would be awesome. Aluminum and CF is the main components we use in this hobby and polymer based stuff i think we dont need a lot of machines for this. But the design and testing part is the one that costs. Designing new stuff and testing it requires specialized people unless the designer and manufacturer is the same Grin . The end product should be of good quality and cheap and to combine both of these becomes hard if a small manufacturer is in the same market. Actually many thing like base metals and electronic materials are exported a lot from India.China is one of the biggest buyers of our iron ore. Even then we are still dependent on the chinese to produce the end product Sad. How i wish we all had 3D printers at our house Grin Grin Grin.

You buy from local or international store the $ is anyway going to route outside india. It's just matter of choice of individual or need where they wants to buy from.

If you think to promote the LHS, then you should buy locally and same time you should also stop buying from ebay or flipkart or any online stores, as there are hundreds of local shop in our city who have invested a lot to setup the shop. These shop not just give employment but also helps to keep the money rotation in market. You never know ebay seller is one person sitting at home or a small firm which selling the same item at little less/competitive price then physical shop. Since most of them don't have any physical shop, they don't have any such committed expenses to run the business and can offer the lower cost for the same product.

So if we want support LHS then should also think about the other suppliers too who run the shops down the street.

This is like endless topic for discussion as everyone view is different, but i think in general everyone does the maths for where to buy; which majorly depends upon time & budget.

we are fighting a defeated battle...

we have surrendered ourselves to cheap products then local products.
we have become more selfish than ever.
We have become more greedy than ever...

Here I'm speaking generally and not pointing at any one.
There are few people who are trying to bring change and its not enough. Majority of people should do that. Major revolution is needed to become more self sustainable country. Its a fight within ourselves.

1947 we were independent by british rule, but we are still following their system which they created. even worst is that china products have acquired everywhere.

What will happen if there is no petrol ? which is a natural resource. can we think of a day without using a petrol / diesel ?
What will happen if there are no china products ?

we need all comforts (so called) but again at low possible cost.
only solution is USE LOCAL, BUY LOCAL, MAKE LOCAL

It's seems there no stopping for the increase rate of $$$.
Am feeling sorry for what all the average person in our country be facing through the hike in all prices. More or less our hobby too has been bearing the loss of loosing more money in importing the Rc stuff.
But at least for people like me & other fellow Indians who are working in foreign lands are getting benefit of the increase in the dollar rate.
Any way we do hope to see the change in the economical status of our country by electing  a strong & good governance  in 2014 election.

pls read http://www.allindiadaily.com/2013/08/real-story-of-american-dollar-vs-Indian-Rupee.html

An Advice to all who are worrying about fall of Indian Rupee Throughout the country please stop using cars except for emergency for only seven days (Just 7 days) Definitely Dollar rate will come down. This is true. The value to dollar is given by petrol only. This is called Derivative Trading. America has stopped valuing its Dollar with Gold 70 years ago. -
Americans understood that Petrol is equally valuable as Gold so they made Agreement with all the Middle East countries to sell petrol in Dollars only. That is why Americans print their Dollar as legal tender for debts. This mean if you don't like their American Dollar and go to their Governor and ask for repayment in form of Gold,as in India they won't give you Gold.

You observe Indian Rupee, " I promise to pay the bearer..." is clearly printed along with the signature of Reserve Bank Governor. This mean, if you don't like Indian Rupee and ask for repayment,Reserve Bank of India will pay you back an equal value of gold.(Actually there may be minor differences in the Transaction dealing rules, but for easy comprehension I am explaining this)

Let us see an example. Indian petroleum minister goes to Middle East country to purchase petrol, the Middle East petrol bunk people will say that liter petrol is one Dollar.
But Indians won't have dollars. They have Indian Rupees. So what to do now? So That Indian Minister will ask America to give Dollars. American Federal Reserve will give us dollars by taking Indian Rupees ( according to exchange rate ) , print Dollars on it and give it to the Indian Minister. Like this we get dollars , pay it to petrol bunks and buy petrol.

But there is a something wrong here. If you change your mind and want to give back the Dollars to America we can't demand them to pay Gold in return for the Dollars. They will say " Have we promised to return something back to you? Haven't you checked the Dollar ? We clearly printed on the Dollar that it is Debt"
So, Americans don't need any Gold with them to print Dollars.

But what will Americans give to the Middle East countries for selling petrol in Dollars only?

Middle East kings pay rent to America for protecting their kings and heirs. Similarly they are still paying back the Debt to America for constructing Roads and Buildings in their countries.

At present the problem of India is the result of buying those American Dollars. So if we reduce the consumption of petrol and cars, Dollar will come down
