Title: Some suggestions for flyers
Post by: amir on August 01, 2009, 02:15:10 PM
today we had a discussion regarding the matters of aeromodelling and govt, in Allahabad,
we came to the conclusion that inspite of the idiotness of govt , we are the one who are at fault.
i want to share an example,
we a had a small air show in allahabad, reporters asked questions, we answered, they asked whats its application, we told it can be used by military for surveillance, u know what was the outcome ?
attatched is the snapshot of the news which was printed in the newspaper,

though it was completely our fault, we need not to fake it.
obviously it can be used by military, but these aircrafts we fly is completely diff, those UAVs(unmanned ariel vehicles) are equipted with highly advanced equipments and circuits, and are satellite controlled, we are not using any such thing, so whats the need to tell them nonsense.
these type of things need to be taken care of extremely bcz the reporters and then govt will know what we will tell them,

here are some suggestion , pls tell these if someone asks :
dnt FAKE

Radio controlled model we fly are "TOYS",
These are just for hobby purpose and nothing to do with UAVs,
These are available in India and are not foreign items ( this is very imp )
dnt tell we got it from some other country.
the radio controller has range of only 1 km which is very less for wrong type of use.
These aircraft cannot attain height more than a few hundred feets, much less than visible range.
It has no tracking device.
It cannot take any payload, as the engine is designed just to take the load of plane only.

These are some which came to our mind,
Pls post further suggestions.

Yes Amir, I strongly support you. There is misleading information which must not be circulated.

The benefits is, when the hand made flutes sounds and when hand made kite flies, there is no limit of joy which enhance further patience, and reduce anger, resolving power . Moreover a successful scientific toy can enhance attraction in not only the relevant chapters of science but entire book community. Again, the calculative and technical mind growing starts from Childhood.

The HAM Radio & Aero-modeling is not only HOBBY but also a technical hobby and the entire benefit hides in the word "TECHNICAL".

Thanks

Sincerely hope this is not a begining of a new episode.  :headscratch:  :( Unwanted attention is something really NOT desired.  :banghead:

Well I feel this is a classical case of of misleading the media about the hobby. Though no offense meant but in this case I don't blame the media but the person who misguided them. Media dose not have knowledege of all these things, media will print what you tell them. You may hog the limelight for that moment but the repurcutions are long lasting on this hobby & may put you in trouble.
My sincere advice to all co flyers on forum pl understand the seriousness of this issue & it's implications on this hobby & promulgate the same amongst co flyers. Fitting a camera on a aeromodel dose not make it a UAV. I have seen many cases of aeromodelers in India claming of making UAV by just fitting a camera & GPS onboard. Though the basics of flying may be same but UAV is a different ball game all together. The security situation in our country may put all aeromodelers in country in trouble with such loose statments. We may end up loosing our freedom to fly.
So pl think before you talk to media in this regards, & forgive me if I have offended someone.
I felt it was my duty to talk about this matter on forum.

HI Amir,
I would second Majraj's view. It's very natural for students to brag their achievements and fake/overrate their achievements. I had enough of such participants at Robotics competition at IIT Roorkee. It should be the guide/profs wisdom to stop them from doing so.

The tendency to poise once's creation as one of the latest buzzword in the circle is very prelevent. for R/C modelers, its UAV. We all know even calling the best FPV platform fitted with one of the best commodity FPV gear would not meet some of the basic requirement of a strategic UAV for defense.

With the country living in a paranoia and largely uneducated bureaucrat/policy makers, such 'hype' would do serious harm for the hobby. We are already having issues in getting permission to fly at a local flying field.

Hate to sound pessimistic but both the media and flyers will remain the same. The media will always want to sensationalise their stories and we, knowingly or unknowingly, become their legitimate prey.

I really feel that there is no need for anyone to feel apologetic. This can - and HAS - turned out to create problems for flyers. Potentially serious matters need to be tackled in earnest, and not with kid gloves.

Frankly, much ado about "yet another profile plane". Ujjwana, which flying field are you talking about- Jakkur?? Slowly the only "flying field" will be our living rooms with micro RC planes ;-)

:D .... I maidened my Swift/Slinger clone 'KESL' in my backyard, which is backwaters of Ballendur lake. The worst part is that it is very close to HAL airport and Jets regularly fly over / maneuver over my apartment. So I kept a very low profile (as it was for test glide/CG tune) and flew around dusk, took the plane only till 20mts high and kept it real short.
