Title: WW2 mamoth railway cannon
Post by: izmile on September 13, 2009, 09:40:13 AM
Had a great time at the imperial war museum yesterday..

Here is the picture of the mamoth cannon used by the germans against the soviet. Just look at the sheer size of the shell used by this cannon. The cannon and is transported in peices to the firing site and it would take 6 weeks to just assemble it.

Reminds me of the Guns in the Movie "Guns Of Navrone" I think it had Gregory Peck, Anthony Qinn etc.
Some  old timers of similar age group would remember. ;D
I think these were the similar Guns , Nostalgia  :D

Saddam  Hussain was also planning to build such a huge gun which he could use against Iran.
Search Operation Babylon and you will find it.

Did a search on "Operation Babylon".. it is also known as Operation Opera and it relates to Israeli airstrike mission on an Iraqi nuclear installation.

Any specific link on the big guns by saddam would be great.

Thanks for the compliment Ismail.
As an infantry man your life depends on identifying friend from foe. I took this training beyond the current breed of aircrafts to even the older and obscure ones which were of interest.
