HYDRO PLANER.....

All respected Modellers.. by bygone time, i was observing lots of things about RC flying and RC aircrafts..and was working painstakingly to develop a simple but effective aircraft for a beginner.. so tried a lots with self research.. my ultimate aim was to develop a good stable platform, with sufficient power, ample of flying time, and easy to fly..  so, after some painstaking effort i just developed this one at first, and i named her as the "VEERAANGANA-1"..!!  yes the name veeraangana stands for the warrior princes.. here in my native Kerala, we were forced to join in "KALARI", is martial art school of Kerala, and the main female teacher was named as veeraangana as she is too excellent in martial arts.. i choose this name because of the agile nature of this proven platform.. when i was decided to develop this platform, my main intention was to help the beginners.. especially my aero modelling students.. and Colleagues.. so i added all features that can adopt on a model..

HYDRO PLANER.....

From my experience and studies i learned lots of good aspects of aero modelling.. and my self research proved that we do not need many fundas and theories, along with formulas to design an RC aircraft.. so, instead of looking in to theories and formulas, i just turned to practical side as trial and error..so, worked a lots.. for a long time.. and at last i made it.. not for me.. but for all interested ones.. easy to make.. easy to handle.. light.. stable.. aerobatic capable.. ample of flight time.. and my test flights took on toughest grounds.. the seashore.. and she behaved so nicely.. so stable..  i took various aspects from various self made aircrafts.. and joined in one.. result..? an ultimate capable aircraft.. the veeraangana 1 is the design name i gave.. means i am still developing the second third and fourth aircraft in same segment, with home made Active Flight stabilization system, by using handy components and ideas.. the test flights are over and still waiting to make the second one.. so, the veeraangana 2 will be with AFS.. and three with both but in to pusher config.. the next one will be more capable aircraft  with big size.. so, at present i started with this one.. and within a week i made four similar aircrafts for my Friends and all behaved well.. repeatedly..  i choose the name SUSAN for my plane, as part of the dedication to my ever respected Teacher.. and i finished her in stunning flamboyant red with yellow..

the craft is equipped with a 50 inch wingspan..  all, we know for a high wing trainer we do not need ailerons, especially for beginners.. but what i found with my self research is, its a must.. then i added the ailerons with individual controls.. this made this craft even more versatile while in flight.. sharp stiff turns, loops, and lots.. at ease.. we always teach our students to take our aircrafts high as possible.. but i never tell my students to take their aircraft to a high level but just above the head.. she is that much capable.. here i used no any extra ordinary material or scientific stuffs to build this aircraft..she is entirely made of 2mm corrugated plastic sheet..

I choose the motor prop configuration after lots of trial and error try.. then i came up with this set up.. so powerful but lots of flight time..  total weight of the craft without batteries is about 800 grams.. and i added about 80 grams of ballast for a greater stabilty..

All we looks for a good stable craft for a reasonable price..but it is hard to find a good aircraft that behaves in a forgiving manner, while flies stable, with a decent flight time.. and imagine that we have a craft, that can be repaired so easily, and can replace parts so easily after a fatal crash.. from wing to fuselage, will be nice..? is int it..? sure.. so i made the wing fixation in such a way with a simple dog.. for additional safety we can also add two tiny bolts over the wing structure..  this avoids cumbersome wing attachments, usually found in simple planes..
    Here is the cool flying..

HYDRO PLANER.....

usually i never take any care about the crafts after making it.. it will lay some where around me.. but after finishing this one, i realized the potential of this craft.. so, i decided to make it available to all interested.. but as i am not a busines personal,  i am unable to do some thing.. so i was looking for a person, who can make some arrangements to make this craft available..and why i hide this good machine within the walls of my little home..?  so, this one will be great helpful to all intersted.. and i clarly know the potential of this machine.. because i always gets lots of personal massages and personal requests from all of my friends from all over.. but usually answering them all is is not possible.. and i know that if i post a full build log here only a few can make it and fly, because of many factors.. include the lack of materials.. and my effort was to find an appropriate one to promote this craft..

Bow RoopeshKrishna Sir, you are my inspiration and reason for me to pursue this hobby....Before signing up in this forum, I have been keep on reading all your scratch building threads for days.

How about a build thread also for making this plane from scratch, may be a plan layout and dimensions on pdf. Any chances of converting it into a pusher model. A pusher model will definitely saves lot of props for beginners like me.

HYDRO PLANER.....

Thank you all respected Members.. i designed this aircraft after a long study and self research.. and choose the tractor configuration as easy option.. but it never stops there.. the more revised version, and a neat pusher is also in test.. will update one by one.. a mid wing is already tested, but its too responsive to a beginner.. but the low wing version is comparatively better.. will update all one by one.. and will post one of my re revised version, of easy fly, and will share all build logs.. and full measurements.. working on.. Salute Salute Salute

What a marvelous plane. It looks very sturdy and doesn't display any signs of what it's made from. I thought it would show the ribbing from the cardboard to some degree, but it appears very smooth. I like it's lines, simple and not gaudy and the colour is very striking.

You bought back many memories of 61 years ago when at the age of 8 my Father sat down at the kitchen table and showed me how to build my first plane. I christened it Suzie, not far off your Susan, in fact in the UK the shortened name of Susan is Suzie or actually Suzanne, but it's close.  I flew the wings off that plane, I did many odd jobs for my neighbors so I could buy fuel, which back then was rather expensive as it's main ingredient was chloroform, that's what doctors used to put their patients to sleep for operations. Very dangerous to work with and on a freezing cold day with the windows closed and a hot fire I would go to sleep from the fumes.

I've watched you videos and I was disappointed not to see how she behaves in a stall, I would imagine she's simply lower her head and recover quickly with no wing overs. I did have a smile when I saw how she flew, it definitely wasn't all that slow, in fact she had a real lick of speed up in some shots. No doubt you had her under power, but it would have been nice to see her with the throttle low or even just gliding to see how well behaved she is at low speed.

What was the power plant you use in Susan and what size battery will she take?  I wish I was in India, if I was I'd definitely buy one myself. Some years ago I was set to buy a plane from a gentleman who had just started his business, but something went wrong and I believe the business was no more. I was eager to try out a plane made of cardboard. I was given a small sheet of it by a friend.  It's used to make advertising signs which are very light weight and easily transportable. I was surprised to find it was coated in something like alight coating of plastic which made it very waterproof.  Unfortunately I haven't been able to find anyone who sells it by the large  sheet. But then I live in the Australian bush and everything is hard to find out here, except Kangaroos and flies.:-)

Just for interests sake, how much do you charge for making a Susan? Because it it and the shipping was agreeable to both, I'd definitely consider ordering one from you.  Then I could finally do as I originally wanted. Have a plane which wasn't made of balsa or foam, plus be the only one in town with a genuine Indian product. :-)

Congratulations on a terrific build, well done.

Hi Rupesh,

I am simply impressed with your build(s), the indigenous AFS system and your scientific logics.
I would surely like to own one of these models and I will contact Mr Sai Krishna.

I wish I was staying close to Kerala so I could personally interact with you ( I live in Delhi), and would have assisted you in whatever way I could.

I would like the contact number of Mr Sai Krishna for acquiring one of the models.

My best wishes.
