Title: 2m Glider.
Post by: v2 eagle on July 16, 2014, 02:44:10 AM
Planning to build a 2m wingspan Glider for longer flight in corro.

Wing completed today. 72 inches with 5inch wide. Teakwood spar and foam padding to support. all from 3mm corro taken from signboards.
Fuse is taken from Biriani flyer. the tail portion would be replaced with Balsa and CF rod instead of corro to reduce the weight.
Expected AUW around 700-800gms with a 5000mah 2S lipo. 3 channel with rudder and elevator and no ailerons.

power train:
Motor: EMAX GT2210/13 KV1270 (C2832)
ESC: EMAX 30A
Servo: Emax 8G mini servos.
Prop: 11inch folding props with spinner.

Expected flight timings around 20+ minutes.

Should maintain the airframe weight and motor+esc to 300-500gms asn the 5000mah LIPO comes around 300gms.

this is a good plane which can be built from 8mm depron http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1138106&highlight=osg (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1138106&highlight=osg)

great doc, looks beautiful. Mine looks a little ugly in real, nitesh, i cannot find any deprin thats why. This corro is sponcered by a realtor.(they took my flying ground, im gonna distrub their business in return) we are going to the new field next week. no more fighting with cricketers anymore. The new field as i have told already will be lot bigger. This will take a lot time to complete, auw comes around 900gms with 2s and 800gms on 3s lipo. can anyone recommend any emax motors for this spec. Specially those ones mounted inside the fuse and just the shaft protruding out. Any idea please. And un budget ofcourse...ashok.p

@v2 eagle
Ashok,
Good luck with your project.
Did you find out why the guy (in the picture that inspired you) is leaning back and straining so much?

you can get depron foam from subhashree stationers and anand stationers if want complete address pm me.
subhashree stationers has double side laminated depron. you can search on the forum for their address and get it from him. remove the paper backing and use it. This guy had bought dollar tree foam and removed the paper and built his plane. So, you could also do the same thing.

@Rc nitesh  anand stationaries are not selling depron anymore. I have been there twice.

Working on a similar one.. Sir

Great idea doc good way to give a dihedral to wing. Is that a solid piece connecting the points for dihedral? Can we use high strength rope? Something like paracord which is light but more than strong enough to do the
job. Or if we use a carbon reinforcement rod and connect its ends with fishing line or paracord to form dihedral, like a bow and the wing will be in between.

It's a 4mm round aluminum rod bent in the polyhydral sandwiched between two layers of 8mm biofoam forming the Kfm 2 aerofoil and one more aluminum T..  That connects to the inner rod at the extreme dihedral forming a triangle...
Its quite  stable and sturdy ...

Neither does subashree stationeries.
Justdial pulls the contact by using some algorithm and gives their contact. I called them and they said that they get at least 2 calls everyday regarding stuffs they dont sell.

No idea Doc. but the plane looks very light and strong in nature. needs motor and esc to complete.
Just sent a msg to RCB asking specs for a motor. hope they respond sooner. planning to put a motor that gives atleast 900-1000gms of thrust in 2S ie, 1200-1300gms in 3S. do anyone knew such motor whose can dia a little smaller than 2inch? any help will always be welcome.

Completed,Test flown,Crashed:
finally the model was up in sky with a few modifications,
1:used a 3S instead of 2S as the motor to give such thrust is very hard to find and a little out of my budget.
2:used a spare bumble bee motor from quadkopters.com with a 11x4.5 APC prop and 30A esc on a 3S 2200mah Lipo.
Balancing was quite difficult and finally did it. changed the normal tail to V-tail.
So officially, this is my first attempt    with V tail and it came out successfully, replaced the balsa tail piece with       corro tube.

The model lifted beautifully and has tons of thrust. i intended this to be a slow flyer for longer flight times but this is more like a sports plane and a without a polyhedral could become uncontrollable.
V tail worked really well in fact i didnt felt any difference than a normal tail.

servo wire soldering for left ruddevator gave way and the model came down breaking the prop and motor mount. luckily the motor survived. it flew less than a minute but it really was such an interesting model.

Didnt took any pics or videos so gonna redo the model with little changes and fly it and will post pics next time.

good effort ! what is the V tail you are refering to? Could you also please share weight of the wing alone. thanks.
