Does anyone have any experience with this model? I've just completed one and the AUW is 225 grams. On such a small wing area (24" x 6"), I feel the weight is high. Had to add a partially working esc for power supply (throttle response was going a jerky clicketty, click, click with ALL motors and then I had junked the ESC) that contributed to the excess weight.

She is gliding well on tests. Since I don't intend chucking her off a cliff face  Giggle, I will try to use a tow line to launch her. What say? Huh?

Rajsigma, I was looking for your build, and saw the video. Somehow I got the impression that yours was a powered version. I'm sure I was wrong.

Couldn't find 2mm coro, so built it out of 3 mm. 2S Lipo, HK Rx, 2 X 5 gm servo. HAD to add the ESC. I think that's where I've gone wrong.

What was your AUW, do you remember?

Thanks!

Rajsigma, while I've built the unpowered / glider version (as per plan), this seems motorised, please clarify:

regards.

Thanks Rohit, however, it is the ugliest thing that I have ever built  Giggle. I did that on purpose, so that I wouldn't regret crashing and destroying the airframe completely. The ESC and the Battery were both junked items, pulled out of the trash can for a "let's see if they work" effort. Just the Rx and 2 x 5 gram servos need to be saved in the event of a crash. Giggle

I have scaled up the design by 50% (child's play) to a 36" wingspan model. That is my next project.

IN THRUST WE TRUST.....!!

one simple suggestion......

instead of the bulky battery and esc..... ( as it does  not have a motor i persume it is just to  power up the Rx and servos.... correct me  if wrong...) why not use a  700 mAh nicd or nimh....

this will be light and a normal 700Nicd gives around 45+ mins on a .50 size nitro with aerobatics( big servos.. around 3-4 full  tank 15 mins flights) ... will give u a 1.5 hr + of gliding time with this setup

Information sharing improves knowledge of both.

VC, use 5 NiCD battery in series and no need of ESC. Direct feed the Receiver and Servo.
And for testing for lightest battery, you can use 100-150mAh NiMH Cells.

Or you can use Lead Acid 4Volt cell used in Mosquito Zappers which will serve the perpose of ballast too and will give more stored energy in catapult launch too. Also Cheap.

Or use 1.5 gm 1S Servos with 1Cell battery and receiver for Micros. Of course, Servo terminals need to modify.

Looking GRATE the video and good flight time.

Perhaps you hae covered the leading edge with the yellow TAPE.
and, forget the foam. Grin

High spirits we have: gravity we flout.

Nice thread guys, I'm also trying to build a small unpowered glider. Gain some experience from it and then build a glider that can be discuss launched. Not so much worried about performance right now but battery weight is a major concern Undecided
Kalyan can you please post more details about 150mAh NiMH Cells and where we can get them from.

My 2S LiPo weighs less than 5 NiCd/NiMh cells, and there is no yellow tape on the wing L.E. just good old cello tape. There is a 10" length of 2mm CF rod inserted into the L.E. flute. As per other forums, this model should weigh around 150 grams.
