Title: 5mm Depron FastCat - Scratch Build
Post by: Jatayu on November 16, 2010, 09:10:22 PM
Hello!!!

This is my first topic and my first scratch built foamy!!

I got the plans from <http://www.rcplans.nl/catalog/>

Specs(Elevon Config):
Material - 5mm Depron
Brushless Motor - TP BM2410-08T
ESC - Hobbyking 25Amp ESC
Prop - 9*6
Servos - Hxt900 * 2
Control rods - 2mm Glass fibre rods with HK nylon clevis
Battery - FlightMax 1000mAh 3s
TX / RX - Spektrum DX6i
AUW - 550-600g

Will upload all the photos taken during its first and last flight!!
I flew it for almost 20mins in total...with 2 hand-launches and 1 landing.
A few mins after the 2nd launch i did a few loops and then lost track of the orientation of the plane and crashed it!  :(

Use Irfan View... they have batch conversion. Set the Scale down %age  and other quality params and dump a bunch of pics. You get them down-sampled in seconds

Nice build. Put some 3M Clear Scotch tape on the leading edges. I guess it is non laminated Biofoam. Use some cheap wooden Kebab Skepwers to reinforce both the tail fins.

Where do you  plan to fly ? We are bunch of people discovered an open ground in Electronic city. Wish you can join us coming Sat/sun morning.

Also, should target a 100 - 200gm AUW next time. 500gm for this plane is quiet huge  :o

Never seen anybody being so happy about his model crashing this bad ! :giggle:  The satisfaction is so obvious in the face/expression :)

Yes yes, i was very happy and satisfied coz i achieved a lot of things that day...

1> My first complete scratch built plane
2> Its maiden went well
3> Inauguration of my RC!
4> Flying an elevon config in one go

All this was just too much for me to be happy that i continued to be in that state even after the crash!

Myself have the same issue. Preferably get a 2 cell lipo up to 500 mAh (which should come to around 30 gms and a motor that is not as heavy. You could check out on the forum itself if any one is selling these motors. RCDhamaka and RCForall have some good options which you could try. Like I read elsewhere "build 'em light, fly 'em high.";-)
