Title: BioFoam RC SU-37 pusher, One more addition to my Hanger
Post by: ashJR7202 on November 25, 2011, 11:07:18 PM
HI Guys,

Here is my one more Biofoam RC Fighter…..SU 37 Super Flanker, with simple Thurst Vectoring……..
Original plan Tomhe  :salute:…. With few modifications…. Simple TV..height of undercarriage increased by half inch to protect prop while landing…..

Main wing was cut with laser CNC, and was with me for long time…wanted to make 2 axis TV and use it….but couldn’t get much time to work on it..
So out of desperation I decided to do simple TV and complete it and fly…….

Since only main wing was cut using laser, I had to cut rest of the pieces…… wanted to use motor mount mentioned in the picture, so had to put reinforcement, with 3mm balsa….. with this motor mount it is very easy to change motor…. Single screw and motor comes out…..but for this I have to make solid base with 3mm balsa….sometimes I feel, to make things easy, I make it complicated….. :headscratch: :headscratch:

Planning to make KF2 airofoil, also will have rudder and aileron. Elevators will be mixed with aileron, for High alpha will use switch to push both ailerons up, with elevators….. Will modify further for Moving canards….. wanted to build like Dave’s famous SU37….

Here are some picture of my build…. It is still to complete…. Might be able to complete it once I shift to Pune next month..

WS 28”, 5 mm biofoam and 10 mm for undercarriage.

Power system:

Motor: 2218, 2500 Kv, 45 A ESC with SBEC
Servos: 6x 9 or 8 gms orange/rctimer servos
Radio: DX7

very well build..!!

have a bad feeling abt the thrust vectoring the motor at that position, might be it will balloon off the plane... though augustine sirs reply will clear things out

1.since the motor is is closer to cg , thrust vector wont work well
2. since motor is behind cg, for nose up the thrust line has  to angle down, the prop wash thus will go above the tail surface increasing tail lift, so instead of nose up, since prop wash will be overwhelming , nose will go down
3. try it, no harm in trying

Gusty sir,

Thanks for ur comments :hatsoff: …..really looking for those….. :salute:

Actually this was with me since long, and waiting to build 2 axis TV and mount it on back..but it is taking long :headscratch:.

Getting impatient to build this  (:|~, so decided to make it simple TV by extending elevators…..

Can say one step towards high alpha maneuver…. Will try with it and see how it behaves…….i know it will not be much success but help me in taking step closer….

Currently using 5 servos, 2 for elevators and 2 for ailerons and 1 servo for rudder. Elevators are mixed with aileron using v-tail mixer, this gives elevator and aileron action to elevators. Aileron and Aux channel is again mixed using v-tail mixer and connected to both aileron servos. Aux channel is activated using switch. So when ailerons action is done both control surface move in opposite direction and when Aux channel is activated, both move in one direction, up for high alpha.. I also have one GWS airplane Gyro, which I am planning to use on ailerons to avoid wingrock…..

Planning to make canards movable and mix with elevator like my eurofighter, may be only after successful maiden….

Decided to use individual servos for elevator, so that can have full control. Mixing was not possible in radio as wanted aileron channel for 2 mixings, so needed clean aileron channel.

I will be needing ur guidance in all this, but current status is…moving to Pune so everything is on hold for sometime, may be start again in a month……

Will keep u posted…

Nice model. Did you see su-37 that S.Shumate design? I like the color scheme.. it really works.. don`t move eye from model on maiden... I almost lost mine in sky :) :)

i love his models..... looks like scaled one......love to build, but needs lots of patience, hard work and i lack both...but will definitely build one.. one in picture looks beautiful...i am planning for same color scheme....

thanks for the picture.. wing also look nice...

here is my wing...

Steve Shumate plans are marvellous. I have printed out plans for F-18, F-35, and SU-37. Lets see how fast I can put them together.

I am planning EDF for F-18.

Even for thrust vectoring Steve's plans are the perfect choice.

There was only one Fighter F-22 left in my hanger as of now. They have all disapeared from my hanger one every week. Thanks to Gusty's passion for Maveric aeros( F-22 has survived only because Gusty has not been able to lay hands on that). Thats the only way I can maintain the population of my hanger. Or I have to keep my hanger away from gusty.  :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

Gusty are you reading this  >:D >:D ;D

>:D >:D me, badla for F-18 >:D :giggle:

PS
This weekend let us not fly, build some 6 of them, each what say ? at ur place ? while RC Wives look after children and food ?

>:D >:D me, badla for F-18 >:D :giggle:

 >:D >:D >:D That was supposedly my Punch Line " 4 ka badla ek " Which was also your mistake because you did not paint the model, it was all white and you gave it to me in twilight.  8-) 8-)  :giggle: :giggle:

Weekend idea is great Sir. Surely we should be able to make one or two.

we maiden it on Sunday @ Banner, Pune.....test pilot was Praddy. 1st i launched it vertically up, holding it just behind canopy and threw it up. it went up and suddenly dive down, since height was low, and as it was unexpected, praddy get little time to recover... and it hit ground....but thankfully manage to landed it on belly...with little damaged...CG was correct.....repaired it on ground and for 2nd flight, Amit (SLS) launched it horizontally holding it above head, it again try to dive down but this time praddy manage to pull it up easily...he trimmed the elevator and it becomes very stable and everything went smooth...thanks to praddy & SLS.... it flew like charm....pretty fast......i was really afraid to take radio and asked praddy to continue....may be next week i wil fly this...

i was really surprised to see it diving down after launch, though CG was correct, motor doesnt have any thrust angle parallel to fuse.......may be some experts help me on this.....

Nice built there

It was a good idea to reinforce the nose with CF. I end up doing "lot of nose jobs" most of the time though not my doing  :giggle:. Last one I trashed after getting fed up after many nose jobs and loss of shape integrity. it was no longer looking like a SU-37 though flying alright.

I have put together another one now. Electronics and paint job is due.

After the trim done is the control surfaces level with wing surface or other wise? if not level then it is surely CG prob if flight characteristic still affected by speed even after trim. if not affected by speed then some thing is wrong with wing/canard surfaces.

was that a good idea to add a KFm2 for a plane with canard where the KFm2 is not extended and covering the canard surface and especially when it is making a  step in front after where the canard is ending?

I see that you have added a single rudder servo. How do you plant to connect it? if already done some photos would be nice.  :)

Was the nose tilted down as per the original plan (it improves the flight characteristics greatly)?

before flight we checked control surfaces and those were leveled but i think after trim it might not be...need to check....after trim it gave no problem.. it was smooth....

Actually i didnt realize this.... i thought it would not affect.....so didnt actually took this thing into consideration.....

about rudder servo, yes i am planning to use it, once i am comfortable with this plane.... will connect it using flexible wire (may be .5mm) with sleeves/ flexible pipe extending till rudder.

about nose, it is as per original plan....

one more thing, motor is mounted above the wing, though it is without any angle...prop centre or say motor shaft is around 5-8 mm above the wing surface.....

A plane with CG problem will again repeat the symptom after trim in slow speed. But if it is not repeating the symptom in slow speed then it is problem with wing / cannard surface, lift, thrust line of motor.
