Title: Biplane : Model 5
Post by: naatumach on July 21, 2011, 07:31:39 AM
To finish off my last piece of depron i made a biplane
attached are the pics... it flies well. :)
Pic 1 - cut out layout in depron
Pic 2 - assembled side view
Pic 3 - assembled front view

it was a fun flight especially after the YF-22. I needed it to lift my spirits up.

I used all the basics in building this a/c and im very happy with the results
1. Used an airfoil
2. Proper aspect ratio
3. Fully enclosed electronics
4. All weight concentrated at 1/3rd Line

Woww!! this is a nice build!

Since you are using non laminated bio foam, see if you can tape the leading edges with clear scotch tape to save nicks from landing.

All the best for the maiden.

Thank you all...
Sorry the plane broke, i cant put up a video.
It flew only once. The problem is that the motor is just strong enough to pull the aircraft straight without any strong winds. I have a 135W motor + 20A esc + 8060prop
Till i go back to college and save money to buy a stronger motor, 30A esc, prop and a new battery, total of around (Rupees 2500), my rc is under hibernation.
It was a slow flier and that one sortie was a lot of fun i was able to make one whole circuit of the ground.
@ashJR7202 : sir i did that after i fixed the crash, but the a/c didnt have any strength to pull up.

I have decided on a motor and it would only cost me Rs825.00 + cost of props.
But i have only 6days left at home so there is no chance i can get the shipping done and still be left with the time to work on it.
Sorry people.

Vaibhav, if you don't mind me asking, what does 'naatumach' mean?  :)
Just curious 'cos I saw the same user-name on roboticsindia, dailymotion, indianguitartabs, moneybhai, splutterfish etc.

Title: First Flight: Biplane : Model 5
Post by: naatumach on July 26, 2011, 06:07:57 AM
It flew! *dance-dance*
After lots of glitches. Finally i strapped on the 260W motor and flew it.
Here's the flight log.
Launched at 65% throttle.
It climbed. Went pretty far ahead.
I did a little maneuver.
Then I got too excited and wanted to land it, so i foolishly cut the throttle and expected it to glide back.
I didnt throttle again because it was just above the ground and i didnt want to damage the prop.
So it landed with a thud.
Because of which a wire got loose on the inside.
I came back fixed the wire.
Posted this message.

Now im going back out again to find a camera man :)

I have the video of the maiden flight. Will post it after this flying session. happy landings :)

The image has been photoshopped, it elevator is the new one and its shadow shows how it looked before i cut it.

Sortie 2 and 3
I really need to learn to land. Good sorties :) I am flying low for the sake of the video.

This concludes this vacation's RC build because the 260W motor melted the battery's wire and caused the originally loose wire to come off the battery.

Thank you... sorry cant make another video, i have no battery. I need to buy a new one. This battery is unserviceable and i am apprehensive of digging in because of all the stories i read about exploding LiPos

Don't be!
I turned a brand new 3s into a 2s for using in my Tx by ripping one cell out. You just need to be careful enough that's all!

Naatu , good build, some more streamlining probably ? Food for thought..

Yes sir, definitely. This build's motto was no loose wires.
I want to build something like your skywalker. i would love to try a balsa build. But i dont know how to make a balsa a/c.
I have seen a lot of pictures but i am looking for more detailed tutorials.

today i just ripped off one cell from my 3s 1800 mah zippy pack as the battery got bulge , now it is working fine but less throttle as i am now gettin 7.2 instead of 11.1, but the thing is now the battery is not warming at all even on the full throttle as before it was getting dam hot on full throttle , and even looking very nice .just be carefull on balancing plugs and while soldering.
