the design of this plane was few years back, so motor mount in template is for geared dc motor , How should I make a motor mount for the brushless motor, One more, can I use cycle spokes for reinforcement... Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: K K Iyer on November 30, 2014, 02:52:00 PM @nilharsh
Like this: Three samples. I doubt if you will need cycle spoke reinforcement. For what? Wings? Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on November 30, 2014, 02:59:02 PM Yes sir for wings.

Come on guys, you are supposed to be aeromodellers. What kind of talk is that? Simply: Bend one side of the wing to an angle of ..... degrees Or create the dihedral by laying the wing flat and lifting one half to a height of ..... mm above the level Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on December 01, 2014, 05:35:37 PM which make RX are you looking for ? and did you cut 45deg bevel on the control surfaces ? cannot see clearly in the picture. Will buy esc and motor combination suggested by you. How much flying time should I get with 1000mah battery and this combination, http://hobbysea.com/products.php?511&cPath=43&sid=590ce36248badc1caba93988ac2d2922 (http://hobbysea.com/products.php?511&cPath=43&sid=590ce36248badc1caba93988ac2d2922) Also connector is xt60 so I need a battery with xt60 Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: SK1701 on December 03, 2014, 06:58:02 AM You don't necessarily need a battery with XT60. You could solder an XT60 connector onto your battery (risky, BE VERY CAREFUL). Otherwise, you could get an XT60 to Deans adapter like this (http://www.quadkopters.com/product/lipo-chargers-accessories/xt60-female-to-deans-male-connector/ (http://www.quadkopters.com/product/lipo-chargers-accessories/xt60-female-to-deans-male-connector/)) or make one yourself.

Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: sooraj.palakkad on December 03, 2014, 01:43:59 PM dude, don't be confused with connectors, you can change it in to any thing you prefer.
Best way is to get a pack of say at least 10 pair (mail and female) of any type of connector, XT60, or DeansT or anything, and standardize all your power system to that, a few minutes of soldering. Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on December 03, 2014, 01:53:43 PM Never done soldering in life man.

@sooraj.palakkad There have been reports that the Donkey breaks its mounts in a crash, but we have yet to experience. I was using in my Indore Bipe. Devashish (forum member) has one in his small 3D, and has done over 100 flights with no problem. Both of us happy with the Donkey 2204 combo. Incidentally, probably the least expensive... Emax CF2822 1200kv is available for around Rs 500 (excellent value), but a 25-30amp esc will be required. Choices are many - one has to start somewhere! Would have suggested this (see pic) but does not seem to be available any more. (My test showed 225gms thrust at 8100rpm on 8x4 black plastic prop, drawing 5amps/40watts on 2s 1300mah lipo at full throttle. Cost about 750 in 2012) Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: sooraj.palakkad on December 03, 2014, 06:51:44 PM Iyer sir, I only suggested that because, if he is not on a urgent build, he can get these motors,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/151495041905?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT (http://www.ebay.com/itm/151495041905?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT) and these ESC: http://www.ebay.com/itm/D589-EZ-20A-ESC-BEC-2A-for-RC-Airplane-Aircraft-Multicopter-/371203020022?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item566d6c94f6 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/D589-EZ-20A-ESC-BEC-2A-for-RC-Airplane-Aircraft-Multicopter-/371203020022?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item566d6c94f6) Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: K K Iyer on December 03, 2014, 07:05:12 PM Have no experience of ebay :(
Cost seems to be USD 1 each for motor and Esc. Plus shipping USD 7 for motor and USD 6 for Esc :headscratch: Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: sooraj.palakkad on December 03, 2014, 07:11:00 PM The parts are dirt cheap on ebay , Iyer sir, I bought all my parts for the quadcopter from Ebay, (you can find details in the build thread).
If one is lucky enough, can get really cool deals by bidding, Like, This : http://www.ebay.com/itm/390977798344?_trksid=p2060778.m2750.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT (http://www.ebay.com/itm/390977798344?_trksid=p2060778.m2750.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT) I got those 4ESC by bidding, but now don't have money to buy it, will do in some days,But problem is I don't need all, looking for partners to buy !!! And also , I got 4x 2212/13T 1000Kv motors for 25$ and free shipping !!! Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: K K Iyer on December 03, 2014, 07:25:24 PM @nilharsh,
Regarding connectors: I would NOT recommend soldering connectors to a lipo to a newcomer to the hobby. One small mistake and poof. Min damage - dead lipo, max damage - explosion! As you progress to bigger motors, you'll need to shift to XT60s, as many batteries, esp HK, now have them But for your present low power need, JST (Rs 15 a pair) is enough. Yesterday i got a Turnigy 2s 1500mah 25-35C for Rs 550 from Adiboy. It has a JST. So i am going to put a JST on the Esc (same Esc as in Donkey 2204 combo) BTW, beyond a point more discussion leads to potentially more confusion. So just go ahead and make a decision based on suitability, availability, time frame and price. Best of luck. I fear that my last post has made you stop posting. The purpose was to stop talking and start building/flying. My sister from Pune is here and returning on Monday. If you tell me what electronics you have already got, i could lend you the rest for a week or two. Use it for testing / test flying. Anything you damage, you can replace/ pay for, rest you can return after a few days. This is what i do with local newcomers, never before with outstation candidates! Regards Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: sanjayrai55 on December 06, 2014, 08:34:20 PM +1 Iyer sir!

I had to complete some important project submissions in my college so I didn't have time to post reply or buy anything. Also I paid my pocket money for my college fees so I didn't have money to electronics. So I thought I put it on hold. But since you are helping me I will complete the build. Now I don't have any of electronics not even tx rx but if you're lending me I'm forever grateful to you Thank you very much sir. I didn't expect you to help from way back indore, you're GREAT, Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: sooraj.palakkad on December 07, 2014, 09:10:23 AM @ Iyer sir, +1
@Nilharsh, you are lucky dude ! Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on December 07, 2014, 10:24:30 AM Yes sooraj,
I'm very lucky. I thought that I have to hold the build. I didn't expect iyer sir to help me so much And thank you iyer for trusting me Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: K K Iyer on December 08, 2014, 12:59:16 PM @nilharsh
40w motor for 2s lipo, new 10amp ESC, and two new HXT900 servos reached Pune. Contact my nephew. See sms for phone number. Strongly recommend you seek help from local flyers. I understand people fly near Panhard Club (near RC Bazaar). If you want professional guidance, contact Shri Sandeep Bajare (sbajare on this forum). Don't know his fee, but have seen his trainees fly successfully. Safest option, instead of diving into the deep end without any instructions. (They fly near AFMC) Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on December 08, 2014, 01:00:43 PM Thank you so much iyer sir

Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: K K Iyer on December 08, 2014, 05:25:51 PM Dihedral
Wing in the pic below is 30" span, has about 6cm under each tip. This is too much for you, 3-4cm under each tip enough. The wing has slight undercamber like yours, about 3mm concave on the bottom. Mark centre of leading and trailing edges. Connect with a pencil line. Ensure 90deg to LE. Cut the wing into two. Prepare a sanding block by sticking sandpaper to a piece of wood or a foot ruler with gum or rubber solution. Use fine sandpaper, number 120 or more. Hold the freshly cut edge of the wing along the edge of a table/glass pane. Sand a very slight tilt. Alternatively hold the wing with the tip supported about 3 cm up and sand the edge vertical. Repeat on other wing half. Must use a sanding block. Freehand not accurate enough. Ensure that the edges match. Tape them together at the bottom. When kept flat a groove will be visible on the top. Lift one wing to ensure that the groove closes neatly. Open the gap and apply Araldite Clear 5min epoxy. Close gap and hold. I dont think hot glue is good enough for this joint. Edit: Pics attached Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on December 08, 2014, 05:42:42 PM Pic?
Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on December 08, 2014, 05:48:15 PM Okay sire,
Understood at last after reading 3 times. :P Will do the same. I wonder will araldite would be enough to hold the wings together. :headscratch: What else do I use for reinforcement Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: K K Iyer on December 08, 2014, 05:49:01 PM Pics not loading.
Will try after a while. Edit: Funny. Pics loaded while i was typing this! Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on December 08, 2014, 05:50:56 PM Is that mini quad in background
Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on December 08, 2014, 05:51:36 PM Funny indeed
Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on December 08, 2014, 05:52:04 PM Same happened with me once
Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: K K Iyer on December 08, 2014, 05:58:08 PM Do not exceed 280gms for this size wing.
Araldite joint should be enough. Caution: Motor is 5amp, 40watt with 8x4 prop on 2s lipo. A 3s lipo or a prop larger than 8x4 will burn the motor in 1-2 minutes. (Yes, Intruder. From Hellyflyer. Rs 1700) Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on December 08, 2014, 06:17:01 PM So no spars and cf rods?
Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on December 08, 2014, 07:48:36 PM I think that the weight will exceed 280g
Because the floats are still ro be added Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: K K Iyer on December 08, 2014, 08:06:50 PM Forget floats.
Forget undercarriage. Have you learnt to fly yet? Flying off water is far in the future. Please do not be toooo ambitious. Initial objective has to be to get airborne, do a circuit and land safely. On GRASS. This motor will not be enough to fly off water. Don't complicate your life too much. Learn to fly first (with someone else doing the takeoff and landing) Then take off and landing. After that you can think about water. Do you realise that your entire investment can SINK in a few seconds? Have you tried to do a flight on a simulator? I fear you are underestimating what is involved. Have you been to Panhard or Ram Tekdi to see others flying? Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on December 08, 2014, 08:14:12 PM Ok sir will do as you said.
I underestimated it rc flying. First will take help of local flyers Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on December 08, 2014, 08:16:04 PM At first I thought that the flying from water is easier than land
Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: kiran rc on December 08, 2014, 09:22:15 PM Practise on simulator or take help of someone, if you are flying for first time. :)
Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on December 11, 2014, 03:05:43 PM Will be visiting pancard area on Saturday and Sunday.
The wing dihedral done. Will upload pics after some time Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on December 15, 2014, 09:29:31 AM Hello fellas,
Work going ahead (though at a slow speed ;D) 1. Motor mounted 2. Control horns installed (home made , they are good and hard) 3. Assembly going on in final stage I have installed a servo on upper side What do you think of it? All servos and motor and esc, thanks to iyer sir Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on December 15, 2014, 09:33:29 AM 1 question,
I installed a control horn for elevator here ,see pic Should it cause any problems for me aerodynamically Or should I change the position. I tried to change the position but, it's not moving, I'll have to cut it down.... Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: K K Iyer on December 15, 2014, 12:17:55 PM @nilharsh
Instal a new one closer to fuselage side. (This one can remain, or cut it off) Looking good so far. But replace rudder push rod with slightly longer one so that the servo arm is perpendicular to the rod. Else you will have unequal movement on either side. Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on December 15, 2014, 03:54:33 PM Ok sir,
Changing rudder push rod and new control horn for elevator Title: Re: BLUCUB 2 build log Post by: nilharsh on December 19, 2014, 09:13:56 AM Ok work moving ahead, :)
