Hi All,
I am a beginner in this hobby and already crashed a 33 Inch Biofoam Blue Baby as my first attempt. I was so scared about the foamy models and decided to quit from this hoby, but  “ VC’s “  AVISPAD inspired me to build this as my second model.
I would like to Thanks Ankur kaul for all guidance and suggestions and VC for this wonder full AVISPAD plan.

Wing Span – 48" ( But in actual comes 47”  Bang Head)
Fuse - 30"
CORO- 3 mm ( 4mm and othesr are not available in my city )

Weight of Wing - 230 Gms ( Used one Inch wood spur)
Weight of Fuse incuding all - 750 Gms
Total AUW - 980

Electronics
Motor - Aeolian 3542 - 1250 KV
ESC - 60 Amp
Battery-35 C 2200 Mah
Servo - HXT 9 Gms

Dear MJet,
I don't mean to discourage you ... go ahead with your plan if you know how to fly.... else the size you are making is too big to start with.... i would suggest to go for a small scale plane made out of thermacol etc.... 500-1000 mAmp batt....such planes can survive 2-3 crashes but the big ones will never since the weight is too much.

Try a small 25" to 30" plane it flies well and teaches you to fly.

The wing you've made is symmetrical aerofoil more common in 3D planes..... this (as per me will not exhibit gliding ability)

Good luck....BTW Mr. VC's signature is Beginner but he is into expert category.

Saurabh +1 and then -5! >Cheesy

Absolutely right on the first part - I would advise beginners to go for something like:

http://www.rcindia.org/electric-planes/my-fastest-spad-build!/msg111732/#msg111732

However, if I know right, Mjet has already built this baby and flown her a multiple times successfully. He is posting a build log for the benefit of others. The semi symmetrical wings have passed the test with 'flying' colours! Clap Clap Clap

Now for the -5 bit: Angry

As far as my being an 'expert', ONLY I know how far that is from the truth. Giggle

This thread heading/name continues to embarrass me......................

Dear VC,
I accept your marks on my post!!!! But i did not see any change on my reputation stars!!!!

Anyway regarding the semi symmetrical aerofoil..... I have not seen anyone else scratch built models flying except mine....

Both my planes have good gliding capacbility i.e they glide fine with zero throttle, is it ths same case with the above one....

Jist is ( as per my understanding ) only aerofoil can glide otherwise people do fly planes with flat wings also.

Proper aerofoil = smooth gliding = slow flying = easy learning = model last long !!!

Did give you a +1, wonder why it isn't reflecting as yet......................

Not challenging any hypothesis/theory/belief/axiom. My highlighted comment in reply #3 is based upon a PM that I had received from the builder in which he had mentioned that the model has been successfully flown 3 times and that he is about to post a detailed build log and video of the same.

IN THRUST WE TRUST.....!!

@saurabh: u have got some points wrong in your posts (not confronting just putting up)....

1> it is a false understanding that small planes are easier to fly and bigger ones not too.... the bigger the plane the easier to fly... since it is bigger u can go far, more distance more time.... it can handle tough winds, and always gives you a margin for error...

2> aerobatic aerofoil: also it is a general tendency to say that start with a glider and then to aerobatic planes, but i rather differ from the same... the biggest reason is that when u fly a trainer or a glider .. u have an error the plane corrects its self... and does not give u a chance to learn... the plane flies u  rather than u flying the plane...

3> starting with a glider and then to a aerobat takes in a lot of flying time to be put up.. and less confidence in changing planes...

Anyway regarding the semi symmetrical aerofoil..... I have not seen anyone else scratch built models flying except mine....

may be u have not seen much people fly... or the ones u did could not....

Proper aerofoil = smooth gliding = slow flying = easy learning = model last long !!!

not necessary...
i have a plane
52in wing span... flat aerofoil (just a piece of foam).... fast flying.... taught 3 people... and lasted 57 flights without single scratch.... finally got bored and gave it off to a school boy interested in flying....

PS: there may be difference in views.. always open for suggestions..  no offence to anyone....

Dear Aerovishwa,

I totally agree with your points and trust that you have much more experience into this field than me.

Now consider this.....

Case one - I am a novice and have bought a  10K 48" plane and come for flying to the field. I have Mr Aerovishwa standing beside me with a trainer Remote to teach me and correct if anything goes wrong. In such case Big and expensive planes are fine.

Case two - ( my case & is the case with many others) I make or buy big plane go alone to field and the plane crashes in next min. All the plus points of a bigger plan would be applied only when it goes in air.

Big plane - difficult to carry = difficult to Fly ( in case 2) = Expensive = VERY TOUGH TO MAKE = 90% chances of leaving the hobby since the effort input is not equal to Output.

I have met people who have directly bought nitro trainer plan and learnt on it ( case 1). Moreover people buying plane will feel less pain than the people making it and flying in case of a crash.

So it depends on the case to case basis which plane should a novice / beginner should go for.....

Apart from above -
Does the flat wing plane glide as well as a proper aerofoil plane does....i have not seen much planes hence the query.

yes indeed the plane glides very well...!!

for case 1: this is the perfect way to learn.... u learn fast when some one teaches you rather than u learning your self...

for case 2: "you go to the field and the plane crashes" how does that happen... u jump on it. Giggle...

bigger planes built with help of seniors and proper guidance will last u a life time.... always be open to people who want to guide you..

and for crashing ur built planes... that one fear lies in mind... hence i never buy an ARF.... i always construct my planes... have a look at the build logs i have posted..

Quote
i have not seen much planes hence the query.
as i said.. u have not seen many ppl fly....

Quote
difficult to carry
if u can buy a plane worth 10K + 15K worth accessories... i can assume u have a car...

but even i have carried my 52in sonic on my activa...

WHERE THERE IS A WILL... THERE IS A WAY...

If a flat wing glides very well then why the hack we need aerofoil?Huh? hope we both are talking about the same gliding??

Which plane will cover more distance if thrown with same force and at same angle.... Flat wing or aerofoil???

Anyway I feel I need to learn a lot before getting into argument .....

take care ... will catch you in case I need some help some time building / flying.

Dear seniors,

VC Sir - I have changed the title of build Log , pl let me know , if any other thing Embarrassed you.

All of you are correct in terms of size and airfoil, but in Bhopal, no resources and guidance is easily available.
one of the experienced person Mr Vinay Sapre at Bhopal explained me, that Bhopal  is a hilly area, so wind speed always be a challenge for models ( also can feel in video) , so he advised me to build a big plane and also shared his experience, that he has not build any small plane in Bhopal. My small blue baby 33 inch was crashed.
Since I am a beginner,  so I don’t know about any thing about aero modeling. I just copied the plans from VC’s Build and built the model as seen in build. My first target is to build a flying model  and learn basics later from seniors.
In first maiden flight, models was going some left (wing speed – 30KM +). We do some adjustment in rudder and ailerons, model was some stable.
I am uploading 3 video of this model , pl suggest me the required corrections for more stability. Models are not painted yet, because I want to test it first. Right now, I am on tour , so will post some more pictures later.

Thanks and Regards
Mohan

For Dihedral, I used 1 Inch wide and 48 Inch long wood strip screwed in middle with 6 inch doublers ( 6 mm ply ) .

Hi All,
For Fuse I used a wood spur in full length and buck heads from Depron. Build from Hot glue only. Used Forex sheet as doublers in middle section.

I used ready made wire type undercarriage and tail wheel from cycle spoke. A 4 mm copper tube used  between depron and hot glued to support undercarriage.
