Some construction pics

Plan used is airfoil 50" span . As per inventor of this design plane with 50" is more stable.

5 mm and 10 mm used for construction, no hot wire cutter, used paper/ thermocol cutter.

Dead weight added before median to get correct CG. Bang Head
Thanks to Prady sir without him it was not possible to calculate correct CG
Plane was too tail heavy, so added 8 AA cells approx 200-300 grm in front of plane, this cause performance of the plane but defiantly help to fly properly.

One thing I notice and would like to share/ suggest all beginners like me

SalutePlease visit your nearest field and senior RC flying members before you start with your new plane. Salute

I have made mistake with my first scratch build BlueBaby 24” I tried it myself and never succeed. Every time tried to get into air it crashed on nose.

Without senior members like Pradi Sir , Amar Sir , Mohan Sir and Amit It was not possible to get my new bird to air.

Thanks Ashish.
As this plane was a quick build (almost built in couple of days) instead of waiting for exact build material and delay test flight I decided to go with things available with me (this specially applies for landing gear)
Sooner I’ll be changing this with actual lighter foam wheels.

good work. What is the AUW?

Thanks Pankaj.

AUW before adding dead weight was exact 600 gms. I guess with additional weight of 8 AA cells it increase by 150-200 gms (I'm not sure about weight of dry pencil cell non rechargeable need to check)

I've been engrossed with this build and the RCGroups thread. It is an ingenious design - a must for every beginner. The only constraint would be the regional availability of depron / bio foam. Anyone tried building this out of Coro?

Vinayak  Hats Off to you for using pencil (AA) batteries! Inspiring, to say the least. Salute

Thank you VC Sir Smiley

I liked flight charasristic with ace of simple design . Specially if you see the videos posted by Russ , it’s really impressive.

I am planning to rebuild tail  part (only) of this plane by coro. Month back I landed my plane on tree because of high wing and my noob pilot skills  Giggle and broke the horizontal stab.

I notice while reading this post agin that I havn't uploaded video of my first flight by Prady sir. I will upload it soon.

BTW I have upgraded my TTP with Towerpro 2409 t motor , 2200mh 3 cell lipo, and 10.47 slow prop. Also fuse is now of squre aluminium tube. So now no more Pencil cell for managing GC.

Thanks for the link Swizera. I think you have deviated a bit from the original plans and reshaped the horizontal tail. However, since it flies well - Congrats to you too!

HI Roman , here is the orignal thread of Russ Trainer. Here u will find the Complete plans and dimensions.
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1281056

Read the entire thread carefully before starting to build one.

I also build the same one with little modification, for rough dimensions u can see this thread.

best of luck  Thumbs Up

Hi romanxdsouza ,

As " swizera " said please go through original thread of Russ-40 on RC group. You will get all information needed.

Regarding build material I have used High Density thermocol (also known as Bio Foam ) instead of Depron as in the original plans. (Don't know where we get Depron in india)

High density thermocol is easily available and widely used for RC plans.

For making wings ,rudder ,elevator , horizontal stab and vertical stab  you can used 5mm  High Dencity thermocol  . I have used same (Check post #1 for material I have used). Mine was KFM wing as per the original plan . Aslo I have used same electronics as mentioned by author.

Your Prop and battery needs to change. I think it will be under powered.
Recomended Electronics by author is : (this works well Smiley )
•   E-Max 2812 1534kv with a 8x4  propeller
•   18a esc,
•   1000ma 3s lipo,
•   9g servos.

Take help of expert flyers to median after completing your plane.

Hi Sagar,

I check your profile for your email Smiley I found you have spent very less time on this site. (May be you have browse offline, I hope so) Still I would suggest to read more this forum. Lots of information flowing in it.

Go through complete thread you will find all required information , this forum is made for helping each other and sharing experience so I would rather prefer to solve queries (If I could off course  Grin) here itself . Also you will found lots of helping hands . I have completely learned scratch building from this forum only.

So please spend some more time and specify your queries. I'm sure you will find all answers. Good luck

Hello romanxdsouza ,

Quote

I have used 5 mm and 10 mm High density thermocol for creating wing. My complete plane build using Hot Glue gun. Attached picture for your reference. (With hot glue you can build it very quickly however there is drawback of increase in weight)

I don't have any experience with under cambered wings with ribs , so I cannot help you here    Bang Head

we can simply find power setup by:
Power generated by Motor+ prop + battery  > Weigh of plane (AUW : All up weight including everything fuse+ wing+ electronics)

No No ... Hold on romanxdsouza  Shocked

This is not the material use for building your wing.. I Check your post on cell but not on computer so couldn't clearly see images  Bang Head

The material you have to use is High density themocol sheet .. (same thing called as Bio foam as well.) Please take help pf any mumbai member for finding this out.

Guys from Mumbai please see let romanxdsouza know where he can get HDT sheets near to his residence.

PS : As a beginner I would not go or recommend with detachable/ fordable fuse or wings , as this comes with lots of complication Huh?

Fuse should not be flexible .. Stick to the proovan  plan if you have any. If you are building yby our own plan  there are high chances of failuer..In that case I will suggest you to follow same plan that I did. With this plan plane is very easy to build.

Is it indian site ?  Shocked I could not access this in office .

If no then you may need to drop your plan. Otherwise you will pay more on shipping.

5mm HDT sheet will cost you max ~ 100/- in india . search any local vender here ..http://www.rcindia.org/tools-materials-and-building-techniques/material-sources-foam-board-coro-sheets/

Roman go to a good stationary shop , preferably near any architect collage. Bcoz architect use these bio forms, high density thermacol and other similar materials to build their collage projects (scale model of building/malls )

I am sure you will find out there.
