Learning to Fly

This has just got to be my most ambitious build. I am just in love with this bird and the idea of build is so strong - I just cant explain

So what am I attempting here?

A twin engine pusher jet

Would have electrical retracts - Ordered

Would have slats and flaps on the flap channel - with speed control - received the speed controller

Would have Dual 2826/6 2200Kv motor on 7x4 prop with 2 x 40 amp ESC and a vtail mixer to balance the motors (thats approx 600 w of power) - received all these

360 degree thrust vectoring  - 180 controlled by moving the motor along with the elevator with 10KG servo and the other 180 degree with adjusting the motor speed of the two motors - 10KG servo ordered

Controls would have ailerons, canards and tailerons/stabilators, rudder - thats about 8 servos have upward of 10servos in hand

battery would be 2x1600mah nanotech lipo (not sure if I need to go  higher)

Dimensions

Length approx 60 inch
Wingspan approx 45-48 inch - again 2 part wing

construction materials - again 5mm biofoam with lots and lots of reinforcements - covered with fiber glass cloth and epoxy

some image downloaded from the web for reference

This is going to be, IMHO, the Mother of all scratchbuilds if you can pull it off. All the very best - do it!

Thanks VC, well its going to be an expensive one too with all the electronics going in Cheesy

Anyway, I think I will wait for the retracts to be delivered and then build a frame to support the basic functions in wood and/or CF. Once done, then put biofoam around it

from what I read in various posts, pushers are easier to handle and actually are more efficient in terms of price to performance ratio

but EDF will give you more scale looks on the ground.  after having everything like the slats, flaps , gears etc would not like to miss on a scale look by using pusher Head Scratching

not sure.. the electronics alone would be over a 120$, then there would a huge investment in time and building material

Thank crazypilot. Will look into it.
At this moment trying Going with the pusher option but as I build I just might change the power system. This may become necessary it the weight goes beyond 1500 gms

keeping the weight down would be a major challenge else will have to increase power substantially. One of challenges that I always face is in controlling the power to weight ratio. Last thing I need is a jet that flies slowly Smiley

this is really going to be huge flanker!!!!

how ur planning to achieve 2 axis thrust vectoring!!!!!!

even i have already cut Su-37, ws 28" and planning to go for 360 thrust vectoring with single motor. i have already built single axis thrust vectoring mechanism for my PAK-FA, but struggling to design movement across 2nd axis....

if u could share ur idea, then it might help me!!!

all the best

single engine TV could best be achieved with a ducted fan unit. Have the duct fixed and create 2 sets of fins (as in air conditioners) that move.

wow things r shaping up! I hav both 2826 n 2212, both r identical, i think power wil also b same. If so then u shd try something more powerful like 2218 or 2836. It wil b killer combination . All the best

Practice, and only Practice will make you perfect

Pankaj
1.FB Cloth epoxy and 5 mm foam will end up heavier than if you do it in balsa, get the plan laser cut from VK or any other place, cover it with monokote/ora, easier and better option than this foam epoxy

2. 2826 motor will give you better thrust with a 40 amp ESC. with a 6x4 prop, some 2826 heats up, keep that in mind

3. as regards retracts, you should mod it later, fly it stock initially, if you are going with the option of foam epoxy,

PS
even in real life the TD flies without any frills, with minimum control laws, even the undercarriage is never retracted in the first few sorties, all the best

I would second that.

its better if you go for 2x2200 would be better for CG as well as better power system.
best would be to go for 2 x 2836/4 2200 KV with the above.
