Title: cessna 182- self made right from scratch, in true sense
Post by: adijoshi11 on February 23, 2013, 06:58:29 PM
Dear Anwar Bhai,

here i present cessna 182 for the construction competition. Its wing span is 1530 mm.
PLEASE NOTE: All the parts are self made, including the cross-section members. NO READY MADE KITS ARE USED.

Please find the progress of my self made cessna 182.

Material information and construction strategy:

1. For cross-sectional and side members of the fuselage and the airfoil sections of the wing, I have used sunboard foam, 3mm
2. I have used solidworks for drawing 3d designs. please find the designs in the screenshot pictures.
3. the fuselage spars are of 'pine wood' (called SAL in marathi)
4. the ailerons and flaps will be of biofoam and rudder and elevator of corrugated plastic sheet.

So far this much only. I will keep posting my subsequent progress.

Split from the sweepstakes thread.  Please read the instructions, and do NOT post the builds in the sweepstakes thread.  Only post a link to your build thread, if you wish to participate there.

Good job on the build... looking forward to the maiden video.

Post by: adijoshi11 on February 25, 2013, 12:59:36 AM
these pictures show the elevator made out of corrugated plastic sheet, the flaps and ailerons made out of bio-foam and then covered with white glossy vinyl.

so far, this much.

cheers!

Sorry people. Was a little busy this week. I could not post my progress for this week. here it comes..

last weekend, I have covered the body of fuselage, placed the landing gears and motor mount. Also, I have joined the two parts of the wing.
Check out this in the pictures.  ;)

still the body is not ironed..it will be stiff after that. Also, you can check out both the wing parts joined.

Post by: adijoshi11 on March 10, 2013, 01:33:27 PM
hi people!
here is the progress: tail empennage is now complete and assembled on the fuselage. Control horns and wires are fixed inside the fuselage too.
Wing is covered half. Will fix in the servos for ailerons and flaps. The wing covering used is mono-coat sheet, white glossy in colour.

*NOTE: The landing gear which was seen fixed in my previous posts, has been temporarily removed for convenience in construction.

Excellent bro!
I like your idea of making a CAD model before actually building a real one.
Mechanical engineer? uhuh?

+1 for your project ;)

Yes..thats a good idea.. I will send a 2d drawing which can be easily opened in autocad. Plus, it will be easy to construct with a 2D sketch with dimensions. I will send the drawing to Anwar bhai soon.

Dear Friends,
its been a wonderful experience to work on this legendary plane and it felt ecstatic to watch it fly so smooth! My efforts were worth the trouble. This is a model where attention to detailing is given great emphasis, which is feel is very important aspect every aero-modeler must look at. Plus, aesthetics is not compromised at all! I have tried my level best to reach the perfection that I had in mind before starting this project.
I hope you guys liked my work so far and thanks for all your comments on my thread.

Now fasten your seat belts for a wonderful maiden flight of the CESSNA 182!

Aditya,1st of all your model z really great,
I want to know about the propeller size and the motor rating you used?

Aditya,1st of all your model z really great,

i have used 10*6E Prop & 2220 KV motor with recommended prop size from 9"-11" and 40 amp esc from hobbyking. Battery used is 2640Mah 3s Lipo.
I felt the setup to be a little under powered for performing aerobotics; but is a good for leisure flight. U could use a 2600KV motor for performing aerobatics.

Dear Aditya,
This great model calls for some great decoration(Authentic). After the maiden flight you must have realized why it is said'A thing of beauty is a joy forever' I'm sure the great take off will leave nostalgic memories.

The wing span is 1530mm and AUW is about 3 kgs. ( I changed the motor now to 2800 kv and the firewall too. hence, the weight has increased drastically)

Title: Re: cessna 182- landing and taxi
Post by: adijoshi11 on March 25, 2013, 11:07:33 AM
The maiden flight video was missing LANDING..actually the camera's memory got over by then. So, here i present the landing of my model. I have upgraded the motor to 2800 kv this time as the plane felt under powered during the first flight. the top part of the fuselage behind the wing has been deliberately cut into two air windows to allow free passage of cooling air.

Check out the landing, taxi and control surface show off! :)
