Title: Convertible Scratch build for 5th anniversary sweepstakes entry
Post by: johnywalker8pm on April 14, 2014, 09:59:22 PM
Hi all.

This is my 2nd entry for the sweepstakes.

As the name states its a convertible one, that can be used as pusher and tractor both. I have no clues whether any one has tried this before or not.
Here is the basic concept for the plane and an honest attempt to create something new. Feed back and suggestion will be extremely helpful.

1. Its a basic trainer plane with adjustable/re-sizable Fuselage for adjusting the CG while changing from pusher to tractor.
2. Its a simple square tube structure for easy and fast build.
3. 36" Wing span, 6" cord (1" aileron can be added later), 24" fuse (Adjustable up to 30" according to the wing span) ;)
4. Power pod (2840 kv motor + 20amp esc + 1000mah battery) + 2 no tg9 servo.

Started working on this build 2 weeks back. Almost completed, need to configure the power pod and ready, steady n fly on this weekend  ;D

For the date authentication purpose images with newspaper on background attached. The starting date of the project was 6th April 2014.
Newspaper was not there with me that day for that i have attached a picture with the live t20 match on tv as back ground. ;D

Pics are attached

Good Johny, colors are bright, which will help in orientation.

I also attempted a convertible plane, and it came out good with smooth flying. below is the link

What a coincidence, i was also having no newspaper that time and used the same TV method for reference, same Sweepstakes period.

Great Johnny,

What did you used for covering, i still am not able to get a decent wrinkle free covering for my plane.
Shifting to coro for the same reason.

@v2 eagle- Sir, I too use tapes for lamination and then adding some vibrant looks to all my HD thermacole models. For lamination I use normal transparent tapes/lamination sheets and for adding colours I use coloured tapes. These come with thickness of 45mm. My suggestion to you is firstly put the tape whichever you decide for colouring purpose, make the markings with a pen and then put tape. After you've done it you just need to iron it. Switch ON your iron for 10-15 seconds. It gets sufficiently hot and then iron everywhere on tape. The tape would stick to the base and even all the wrinkles(if any comes by mistake) are also removed.
Try it. Best of luck.

No Shyam, They aren't. these are high density foam used as packing some kind of motors. there is a service station near to my place from which i collect those from their garbage bins at early morning  ;D

here are the photos of that foam and sliced with DIY hot wire foam cutter.

Thanks Ashok.

Yah..  definitely we will fly this weekend.

Still little final touch is pending like the nose part has to be aerodynamic.. will give it a pointy shape with a cowling (synthetic foam) which can save the nose form crash.  ;D ;D

maiden done today. Plane flew great and most importantly crash resistant and withstand any crash. Close to 5mins on a 2200mah battery in single flight. The ground chosen was coverd with a foot long grass to save the plane. Attached pic is jonny recovering the plane few feet near the puddle.

It was beautiful to watch this fly and glide so majestically today. {:)}
And also that eagle which seemed to have fallen hopelessly in love with the plane too. :giggle:

The flying duration with 2200mah is exactly 10.05 min.. calculated from the videos captured apart from the testing and few few seconds duration flight..
