Thankyou Mr Astha, Krish and Ashish for your compliments.

The gear used for spray painting is a gear used for body art painting, Finger nail painting, cake painting, and of course Model painting. I had bought it from ebay international. It is available in Tower Hobbies, Hobbycity and some times back in indian ebay also. It is used with a Micro 0.3mm spray gun.

I am posting photo of the same please.

Dear Akky,

Here are the pictures of the landing gear closeups. it is a very simple fixed gear with front wheel on a 2.5mm GI wire bend to a 'U' and rear wheels fixed on a carbon fibre 4mm square tube with same 2.5 mm GI wire forming the axle.

Both fixed to the model using hot glue.

 Dear Mr Astha,

ebay.in link where the airbrush compressor is available in India. This one has a air storage tank also in addition to the compressor which I have. I had bought it for about  Rs 5000/- along with airbrush from Hongkong ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.in/Air-Compressor-brush-airbrush-temporary-tattoo-oil-free-/330450162043?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item4cf05d517b

However this link does not have the airbrush attachment. it is only a compressor. Airbrush will cost Rs 2000/- more each

Post by: VC on July 29, 2010, 10:31:22 PM
Sometime in 2008, I was bitten by the airbrush bug and I researched it till the cows came home and went to sleep! I have made my own compressor for the airbrush from a tyre inflater available on the net. It costs around Rs.500/- and works fine for imprecise jobs. It doesn't have a storage tank. I also bought a storage tank from a local refrigerant parts shop and added one way and two way valves. Once I got it functioning, I quickly lost interest and have stored it all away. I am shifting residence soon and can't unpack anything now, otherwise I would have posted pictures of the entire assembly. The airbrush was from Mumbai - Pilot product. I will try and provide the links.

his is the compressor that I used. Not precise but it works. You have to time the release button on the airbrush to get a nice smooth flow. Needs a bit of practice but can be done without spending Rs.10 K for a professional set up.

http://cgi.ebay.in/12V-Electric-Air-Compressor-Pump-Car-Bike-Tyre-Inflator-/270575669138

Second alternative is to use this: Fast, economical and zero maintenance.

Apologies Colonel for hacking into this thread, please excuse my impertinence.

Another link: Check the Motorcycle paints section.

http://www.com-paint.com/viewallproducts.asp?pgtyp=viewallprod&cids=1&scids=1

Only thing to be careful here, aerosol paints contain thinner which may attack depron/bio foam. Test it on a piece of scrap first. Perhaps, if we use laminated depron/bio foam, it may not affect it. I've never tried it, though I have some cans of aerosol paint recently smuggled in from Imphal, Manipur @ Rs.90/- per can.

You are absolutely right VC aerosol with thinner just eats away foam and deprons/bio foam. Even if there is a pin hole in the lamination it starts eating within. I had used aerosol for my thermocole glider but only after the thermocole was neatly laminated with packing tape. With aerosol paint you can generally paint surfaces but no intricate art work.

Does PilotIndia sends your order by post?

Thanks for the compliment VC and Krish.

VC when you said 15 days you will provide them with a partner/ adversary, it was just the required motivation for me to roll out this mean looking machine. wish some day we get an opportunity to meet where we will be able to do some RC aerial combat with our F-18, SU-37 and Mig-29.

Dear Sandeep,

What I have used here is an airbrush to paint the model. The photographs has already been posted earlier in this thread. Paint used is acrylic colours which is easily available in any Stationery shop. The Depron used in the model is as such having the base colour i.e. the pinkish colour. the stripes have been painted with the airbrush using shade of maroon. The edges have been painted with the same shade of maroon. The wing tips have been shade painted with black.

The Engine, Stars, Black lines, cockpit, intake ports, other ports and big letters has been painted using a stencil cut out in a old 'X' ray film using black colour sprayed using airbrush. After having painted out line of the engine using the cut stencil, the engine has been further shaded using the airbrush.

The small lettering are printed out of a label printer and pasted as a decals.

The Flag colours and the Futaba are Decals.

Now every sunday and holiday I am enjoying flying these two fighters / birds who are a treat to fly and watch flying,
a flight video is long overdue. My 9 year old son who used to be my cameraman is now more interested in flying with me through WTR - 7 trainer and is always next me with his futaba 6EX which is sync with WTR-7.

So I am running short of a camera man. It is high time I think I should fabricate one of the HAT camera like Mr Astha.

Notwithstanding the above I have recorded a very short video of the Mig - 29 and posting it here. apologies to you all for it, I will post a longer and more pleasing video the next time.

Thankyou very much Mr Astha,

Both the fighters have fixed landing gears, however not steerable, does nice straight take off and landings. No wonder I choose to fly from the helipad and not from a straight tarmac surface, as even if veers of a little to the left or right there is room for some margin of error.

Post by: ashJR7202 on September 08, 2010, 06:39:48 PM
wow!!! it looks great and fly even great!!!! seems like it has got Thrust vectoring capability!!!!!!  :-)

Title: Re: Depron Mig-29 (FULCRUM) build from plan
Post by: sundaram on September 08, 2010, 09:44:15 PM
Thankyou very much AshJR,

you are absolutely right it has thrust vectoring. Depron sheets forming the elevator in elevon mixing are cut in a shape that  the sheets where the engine is painted is deflecting the air draft of the propeller and giving the thrust vectoring effect.

Apart from this the aileron surface are also on elevon mixing operating parallel with elevator surface. This makes the model extremely maneuverable, and is very difficult to control. Therefore the control surfaces are on Minus 50% exponential.

Rajath, I don't want to dishearten you, but I hope that is high density thermocole. You may have to use a lot of reinforcement if it is normal thermocole.

The build is very neat.

After more than an year of flying, the last mig - 29 was nearly totaled after the high G aerobatics and kulbits by Gusty. She was still air worthy though but developed so many cracks all over decided to retire her and make a new one for gusty to try his extreme flying   :giggle: ( hope gusty you are reading this )

Planning to name her the flaming arrow.

This one is with rudder too

After the cruel culling of my favourite birds & fun fliers at shillong to make space, the first bird is back to life test flown trimed and ready for many hours of fun. My compressor is still at Shillong,_ so all painting with brush, has not come out bright but in dark shades of colours.

Sir, if that be true then we be damned.
If you feel the need to do so next time, please let this underling know. I will be more than happy to add them to my lonely hanger.
