Title: Electric Trainer : which one and from where ? Post by: ujjwaana on October 29, 2009, 12:19:42 PM May be this has bee already discusses, but lets up-to-date the topic and bump it up!
After ordering Futaba T7C, Great Plane 35A ESC etc from Towers, now I am looking to procure an Electric ARF trainer of around 46-56 inch wing span (medium) from India itself. It should have all the 3 control surface active (Rudder/Elevator/Aileron) and bear rough handling of my toddler day in RC. What options do I have from Indian stores ? as far as high winger Trainers goes, I don't find many option in Electric (there are few Nitro/Gas ones ) . I am really looking forward to Cessna, Decathlon, Easy Cub/ ElectricFly kind of models, which should be made to regularly detach wings for transportation. Sadly they are not offered by Indian stores (I know Mr Sai listening). Personally I wished to start with Nitro themselves, but having a car still 3-4 months away, I guess its better to start with Electric. And yes, till i get a Jakkur airfield membership, I would also like to takes my hand on smaller foamies and fly them in some parks as I am Sick of SIMs. Any recommendation for them is a welcome! Once you get used to flying/crashes, then you can invest on a good RTF that flies well and sharp.

I have the same dilema of which trainer. The obvious choice was a scratch build rather than a ARF - depending on the foam, you can build one for less than 500 bucks whereas the ARF start from 4K upwards. I started with a 48" wingspan which I made too bulky, so I scrapped it and built a lean/thin 53" version of a trainer. Then I realized that I dont have good size ground to try it out. So my suggestion would be to make the first trainer small and light so that you can try out it in your regular parks Pankaj Title: Re: Electric Trainer : which one and from where ? Post by: PankajC on February 04, 2010, 09:10:27 AM another thing is that you might want to just go in with Elev + Rudder in the first attempt. Plug the rudder link to the Aileron socket of the Rx. The reason for saying this is that at the start, one does not have proper control and so while flipping the rudder one would tend to increase/decrease the throttle as well.
