Title: f1d type electronic indoor slowflyer- "the balsa snail"
Post by: romanxdsouza on November 14, 2013, 06:38:11 PM
"the balsa snail " this is going to be  my electronic  f1d or  :headscratch: f1m  type of airplane built of balsa and vegetable plastic bag because im cheap  :giggle: :giggle: and dont know were to get micro film in mumbai so chuck it.

wings, fuse and rudder detachable for easy transport as its an indoor airplane
wing span-20inch
airframe weight - 7grams
electronics to be used - from the mini vapor a great small airplane to fly in small places and can fly slow too but best indoor however i dont like RTF so decided to build my own, just removed the guts from the mv , thanks to mr.leabres for taking the trouble to send the mv across.

auw-planning to keep it 13grams not easy  :banghead:
i was  inspired by this videohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmRkxZT4XhY and ideas fromhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyNkioQcKG8&feature=youtu.be so decided to build something similar ....wish me luck guys
some building pics more pics to come ...keep watching here for more updates will be posting even if  i do not succeed :salute: :salute:

Great, Roman.

13 grams! I don't know how you manage!! I have difficulty, in the extreme, staying below a kilo :D :D

thanks ashok,im confused what you mean about prop slow and fast Head Scratching ,im making mine electronic so the prop has to  spin a bit fast but will carry the weight of the plane ...  i have seen many videos like that bro if i had the covering material and place would surely try it and many of us also would

Great, Roman.

its really not easy  :banghead:, best way i feel for someone to get into these models is starting with the hangar rat rubber powered http://www.ctie.monash.edu.au/hargrave/hangar_rat.html . below a kilo or no sir ,all said and done your planes fly thats it   :salute:   :hatsoff:

true, it did fly great

alright so i did a maiden of my balsa snail ,flew it at a location not exactly indoor but it was in a kind of a shed were it was open on one side i mean slight breeze could come inside,it was flying but after every turn it was banking straight down after a few tries moved the battery behind and it flew great basicly CG issue ,it flys now however its still heavy :banghead: auw came in at 14- 15grms need it 12 or 13grm or less.it flys well now but there was sudden wind coming in from the open side so dint take a chance flying ....the balsa snail  has survived and is ready for its next flight here is a pic with electronics will try to put some more pics and videos. do remember those wings, fuse and rudder are detachable and yes the battery to :giggle: :giggle:

You get my vote for 1st place in homemade micro slow flyer award!  Please visit your local elementary and high schools (with principal), fly your snail in their gym or auditorium, and inspire the young people with your creativity.

@romanxdsouza,
Sorry to say that many newcomers just go on making queries,
Without bothering to look at your posts.
Perhaps you should start a thread with a simple name like say 'Micro models'
The Goa video is itself enough to provide inspiration.

will try and do so sir.
another suggestion i had was  if in the eletric plane section RCI would make different sections for eg.. like under electric planes ,you click on electric planes and all type of planes show up like.....eg..jets,trainers,slow flyer, free flights, micro models......etc. so all one would need to do is click on what type of plane he is looking for and it would all be under one heading.it would be easier for one to get information in one section and one would not have to go through  49 pages or keep trying words in the search field as what ever information is there for what he is looking for eg jets, would be in the same section under jets.

may be not many but a few sub-threads would be nice or a sticky with links (i only got to know about this thread after roman posted a link)
