Title: FT Racer from available plans
Post by: sanjayrai55 on November 16, 2013, 07:53:09 PM
Built the FT Racer.

Relatively straightforward build; as I had weight problems with the Spitfire using double laminated foamboard, decided to try using biofoam for the wings and tail feathers, with the Fuse remaining Foamboard

Slight modification in wing assembly: I first joined the wing halves then folded over. Joining two finished wing halves creates problems in gluing the dihedral braces, which are also weak and can crack easily

Also put a main Landing Gear and a tail skid. Our ground is real rough, the bottom will be scraped in no time without this. The pic shows how I put a small ply plate with 3 mm Blind Nuts to fit the main L/G

Did a marvellous goof-up first time around on the vertical stabilizer. Was a certain amount of debate whether it could fly backwards

Have a safe landing...  Is the undercarriage being re-cycled from the Biplane ?? How are you holding it to the grub screws..another ply pcs or is the foam strong enough?? What glue have you used??

The undercarriage is from the Nutball. It is fixed to a piece of ply, which is the screwed on, using M3 screws which go into the Blind Nuts.

I used hot glue throughout

Did not have a successful maiden :(, a first time with FT

The biofoam on the aileron flexes, needs reinforcement. Also, ground take -offs are a problem on the rough ground. For a maiden, it is preferred, as one has the option of aborting, unlike a hand launch.

Next weekend  ;D
