The ones used in fuselage are called 'formers' i.e. they give the desired 'form' i.e. shape to the fuselage.....

Well wish i could get to be in the cockpit of one. Well I am planning to build a static model of the spitfire for my Drawing Room.... lets see when i get the time to do that.
