Glidiator ver IV
Tweet
Hi Guys This is my first ever build plane. Before i start I would like to thanks RCI membres medicineman1987 and prateek13 as they have inspired me to make this plane. Without their help and advise I would have driven only my boat. So lets start.
The whole plane is made out of advertising board which a shopkeepre gave me for free. For the reinforcement I have used 4mm strips of wooden patti.
The tail is also made from the same board. The hinges are made by cutting the control surfaces and joining them with tape.
(I made the fugelase of the patti first because the board was in small pieces.)

Re: Glidiator ver IV
The pushrods are made from the same patti. I didn't use clevises as they all were in backorder at Hobbyking. I just mad ethe Z bands. I made holes in the end of the sticks and glude the cycle spokes using CA.

Re: Glidiator ver IV
Servo
Servos are mounted inside the fugelase at the side using zipties. I didn't use the servo tray.
outside the fugelase I made holes and passed the zipties through them.

Re: Glidiator ver IV
The Wing
The wing is made of thick and high density thermocol. I didn't make the airfoil as iI was not having the Hot wire foam cutter. (Going to make another wing with the airfoil.) For the reinforcenent of the wing I used wooden spars into the top of the wing and glued them.
The plane is almost ready. Waiting for my package from Hobbt King to arrive.
Thanks for Reading

Re: Glidiator ver IV
Hey Prateek
Just now we did a glide test of the plane and it flew very good. So I dont think that it will not fly.

Re: Glidiator ver IV
Thanks all.
I don't have a hotwire foam cutter. How can I make a airfoil of thermocol?

I am not weird...Instead i am a bit different....
Re: Glidiator ver IV
sand the thermocole after doing some contour cutting ....or simply make hot wire cutter

Re: Glidiator ver IV
Search on the forum, there are many threads on hot wire foam cutter. For a simple one, use a 12v DC eliminator. Get a 35watt nichrome wire and make yourself a bow and fix the wire to it, so that it remains taught due to the elasticity of the bow. And to make an airfoil, just attach two metallic rulers so that, while you move your bow cutter with your hand, the metallic rulers will guide it. But, as i said earlier, all of this has already been discussed earlier so search on the forum.
But, i guess sanding would also be a good option. Just take a block of the thermocol and sand it and see if you can get the airfoil shape.

Re: Glidiator ver IV
nice build except the thickness of the thermocol. try reducing the thickness or use airfoil.
I not sure about this - try using coro sheets
About servos mount - u can try putting two small pieces as the height of servos attached to the lower base & then screw the servo on the piece

Re: Glidiator ver IV
Hi Guys,
Today I started making the hot wire foam cutter. After I finish doing it, I am going to cut the thermocol. I willl post the pics soon.
