Background : Few months back i got a yak12 from RCBazaar. I asked for all electronics complete and they sent a 2200 MAH battery instead of smaller 1300 2S. I thought all is good so I tried to fly it and broke everything in first flight since the battery was too heavy. I got replacement batteries and tried to fly but the plane was in bad shape to fly anymore..  I Don't blame them for shipping wrong products, In an ideal world i expect them to either ask me what I need and If I dont know what I need advise me to go ask in forums. 1st recommending a wrong gear, shipping it and later saying it wont work with this battery is not cool. I expect you to either know your stuff if you are recommending something or be clear upfront.

I put the hobby on hold for sometime.

Current Situation : : I got brand new SKy Surfer 3 from RCBazaar again, this time the plane had one of the wire unplugged from the moter (the 3rd wire from the motor was hanging out). I had to call them to get instruction to how to patch this thing up and power on.  It powered on.

I am trying to fly it but it does not want to get off the ground. Tried on a flat surface and on  grass in garden , it does not move forward even at full throttle.

I tried hand launch with  friend,  I launched it on 75% Power , level to the ground and It went straight to ground , Little bit shaky but was able to glue it back together well.

I called RC Bazaar pune branch for help and their asnwer was - We sold 500 units of this plane and none of them had this problem so its must be you who does not know how to fly.  I Assume they didnt sent wrong batteries and broken moter wire to many people, its just me who had problems both times. Probably wont order from them again.. Anywway Nothig to complain though.

So my question is , What I could be doing wrong ? Can anyone take their 2 minutes to review the situation and try to help. I think i spend 4-6 hrs on Sim to learn how to fly a plane and was able to do it well.

I am a busy guy (business man) and have very little time in hand mostly, if things does not work again I might have to quit the hobby entirely even before starting.

PS: I called RCmumbai.com guys for  a TX RX and asked them for urgent delivery. They came down to Dahisar station and met me to hand over the products, Free of delivery charges. Pretty nice experience Must say.

This hobby needs time .. sky surfer is a basic beginner plane. You need to read a lot before you actually try flying.

this forum is right place to learn.

Human mind is like a parachute, works when open

this is a story of every new comer who wants to rc in first flight without guidance.

pls seek help of senior members in your area. this hobby is well enjoyed in group. alone you will have hard time and will end up in frustration.

ultimately all equipment is either sold or thrown in some store or loft.

patience is a must and you need to have a never say die attitude.

everything is possible if done the right way. could have helped if you were in Pune.

Hope you checked the Centre of Gravity [balance] of the plane before trying to fly? If the weight is too forward [nose down] move the Batt back. Check elsewhere how to find the CG in this forum. All the best AND DONT LOSE HEART...
It has happened to most of us.

Hey yes, The CG is right. I checked the balane and stick the battery with a double tape to make sure it does not move in flight.

@wtg
A year ago, i had posted regarding the excellent service from RC Bazaar.
Of late been seeing a lot of cribs.
RC Bazaar, please take care of your customers!

Attaching 3 short videos (under 15 seconds) of my models to show how your model should have behaved.
On this forum someone had also posted a video of a SkySurfer taking off from grass. Try to find it.
Best of luck, and don't give up too easily!

Maiden Blues are always a tough times even for seasoned fliers. In-spite of CG being correct there are so many other issues like  thrust angles of motor, symmetry of model, axial balance, throws of control surfaces, performance of power plant, orientation of prop pitch and direction of rotation and many many more which as a beginner and a maiden test pilot is a tall order. I am not saying impossible. very much possible if you have patience and are observant of the behavior of model in run up before flight. For a hand launch its always advisable to do a glide test without power opened over some thing soft like tall grass before you are actually attempting to fly it. The model should be able to glide with the good chuck 10-20 degrees up to the ground and land in a glide. It should neither nose up and stall or nose down.

Hand launch with power 70% open is done at an angle of 20-30 Degrees up not parallel to the ground.

Even after a successful test launch there is a sure need for trimming of the model in the maiden for level flight characteristics and control throw adjustments which you can do only if you are a seasoned flier.

So its always better to attempt a maiden flight with a seasoned flier who can either help you do it or help you in observing the flight and what you did give you correct advice and help you in trimming and control throws.

Like myself and Gusty always did our maiden launches together in Shillong. Now I do it with my Son who observes for me and gives me feedback.

Happy is a man whose hobby is his profession

You have Virar brothers flying in that area but charge a good amount to teach aeromodelling. There are people flying in Thane, airoli as well as around Dahisar. Get in touch

one small suggestion ... if it is your first flight... move the CG front by about 4..5 %.

it will be more stable and react more gently to control inputs. Also resist the urge to yank back on the
stick after launch .

Hey, even I did maiden my sky surfer just a few days ago. .. . but it was after three unsuccessful attempts. don't give up. When u hand launch the plane, just throw her horizontally, not upwards, she will glide away and you will get a few seconds, in that time take control using throttle and elevator. I also don't have anybody helping me here, but Its easy, you just have to overcome your starting trouble . ..   read the threads mentioned in the above posts, they are very useful.

Looking forward to your maiden video.
