Title: How to attach motor mount to coro fuse.
Post by: happysoul74 on July 29, 2011, 07:51:19 PM
Hello guys!
After my coro stick trainer crashed (flew for 20seconds :giggle:), I started building Avispad using the same electronics:-

Motor - Turnigy 2213 22turn 924kv 17A Outrunner.
ESC - TURNIGY Plush 30amp.
Lipo - Turnigy 2200mAh 3S 25C .
Prop - ZD 11X 5.5 E
Expected AUW -900 gms.
Wing & fuse almost completed. Aileron, Landing gears & motor yet to be installed.

personally i prefer an X-motor mount. Because then you have a lot of area to anchor it to the fuselage.
And it always stays square with the fuselage.
You can easily mount it using a couple of zipties.

Attached is the example -
The 8 zipties, will not let the motor go anywhere and also will keep your fuse rectangular.

More anchors will reduce immediate vibrations at least at the point of the motor.

well once I had made a coro fuse and the way I had done was that on two edges of the firewall (behind it) I had put small strips of coro and glued with superglue. The firewall itself was then glues onto the 'U' shape in front of the fust. Then I had strengthened the firewall by puting few layers of 2inch tape across the firewall and further about 2 inch into the sides - some thing line a '[' shape. Overall it came out light and strong

I have a plan to make a mount in the following way.
Make a cutout, put it in between the X-motor mount, Put CA in the slots of the fuselage.
I hope the image is coherent enough.
Else if you can wait till sunday i will post a more coherent image from my hostel pc.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. I opted the zip tie method, glud the firewll to coro former with 5min. epoxy.
It looks promising.

how to attach it?

cut a slot on the wing such that the servo should fit tightly in it. You can use CA to glue it in place, only glue the part that stays above the slot in the wing (the part where there is hole for the screw).
Also I'd suggest you place the servo under the wing. That way you can easily use rubber bands to attach the wing, with servo on top attaching the wings to the plane becomes difficult as you have to fish the bands from below the push rods.

This is of my very simple motor mount with 1/8th 1/4" screw and nuts. May help you.

Or you may use a piece of wood fxed with coro fuselage using wooden screw and washer with or without epoxy.you may consult spad to boon site for coro mountings.

Happysoul74, The take off seemed good. Then what happened? Too much elevator, stall, panic and then BOOM?!

Don't worry, I did the exact same on my first flight!

That is exactly what I am talking about. I think more simulator practice is required in order to gain quick reflexes.
