Don't wake a Tiger until you've factored the teeth

Hi

I bought a Fun Cub from RCD some time ago, and finally assembled it last week.

Used a Turnigy 3536  910 KV, and an HK 40 A ESC. Mounted the motor outside the cowl, in front Wink.  I'm using a 12*6 E Prop, and the following Servos:

Rudder/Elevator:  HK15148B Digital Servo 19g / 2.8kg / 0.14s (Metal Gear)
Flaps/Ailerons: 9 g Turnigy Metal Gear & HXT 9 g

Flies like a dream Cheesy

Would love to compare notes with other users...they fly of the shelf so fast in RCD there must be many on this forum...I know Vishal Rao has one Wink

I use the following setup Sanjay sir:

Turnigy SK3 3536 1050KV motor:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__18162__Turnigy_Aerodrive_SK3_3536_1050kv_Brushless_Outrunner_Motor.html

11 x 6 Master Airscrew prop. I tried a 12 x 6 but there was lot of vibration as I believe I need a still low KV to be able to use a 12 x 6 on that airframe.

40 Amp ESC

Don't remember exactly but I think I have put 13g metal gear servos for rudder/elevator and 9gm plastic gear servos for ailerons. I guess I have to change the aileron servos to metal gear ones as they have already started jittering.

I have removed the tail landing gear as it was too flimsy (had to straighten it after every landing) and have also replaced the stock landing gear with a custom one as it was very bouncy on hard surfaces.

Except for these minor issues,  I'm satisfied with this plane (like all multiplex models) Smiley

Hi Vishal

Very interesting!

How did you fit your motor? The SK 3 series come with an additional adaptor which fits on the can, so you don't have to reverse the shaft. I guess you must be using that.

Which battery are you using, and what sort of flying time do you get?

I've only done 21 flights, no problem yet with the tail wheel assembly (I did put a little reinforcement where it fits into the elapor) and I'm managing on the main L/G. Which L/G did you swap to?

How has been your experience with flaps? I used  a Turnigy Servo reverser on one Servo. Set them to 45 Degrees through the EPA, and so far only use to slow down for landing

Tried any aerobatics? I find my turns are much better with Rudder/Aileron co-ordinated. Tried Rolls; successful only with both Rudder & Aileron

Hey other Funcubbers: let's hear from you guys also!!!!   Thumbs Up

Sanjay sir, the Turnigy SK3 series are meant to be front mounted so I needn't do any modifications other than using their "x" mounting plate.

I use the 3s 2200 mah battery and with a bit of aerobatics I think I can get around 10 minutes (upto 3.7 volts). I have to push the battery far behind to get the CG right and hence I don't think a heavier battery could be used.

Tail gear, I tried doing some modifications but finally removed it altogether and put a wing skid instead Smiley We hardly taxi around and I felt that it is best left that way.

Flaps, I really couldn't master using them. As the landings and take offs were already short without the flaps, I removed them too Smiley I would like to reinstall it but then I don't find the effort worth it.

Turns, yes, rudder/aileron co-ordinated works much better. I do more of inverted flying and find the model going up, so have to keep giving the "up" elevator. Rolls, haven't tried much. Have yet to master doing them using rudder & aileron Smiley At the moment, I just use Ailerons and Elevator. Time to grab the simulator Smiley

Nice Vishal. I must try inverted soon. I think flaps are essential for some aerobatic maneuvers. Unfortunately my radio has only 4 proportional channels, the other 2 are switches Sad  So my flaps only function as 0 or 1

What did you do to your main L/G?

Is the ply in the pic just glued on to the elapor, or do you have a matching plate on the inside of the fuse?

Thank you Sanjay sir. First I have glued sunboard/foamboard (black colour) to the elapor using CA and Activator. This is not the regular soft white sunboard/foamboard. This is a hard one. Over that I have glued ply. There is no matching plate inside the fuse. I have found that CA/Activator combination works really well and creates a very strong bond.

I really must make one like that too

Right now I'm flying the stock L/G

I made a stand (ghoda) so I don't have to bend down, and after my knee surgery I cannot squat
