Hello friends,
two years ago I had the opportunity to try one of the first kit of Super Viper HSD 105mm. A jet model in Epo that made the HSD rise to prominence (from Hong Kong), HSD, which, following the success of Super Viper, kicked off a production of jet generously sized all made of high-density foam.
Since a few months is finally available the latest version of this jet that differs from the version previous for interesting innovations both structural and motorization. The first novelty is that the version "turbo foam" is "turbine ready": the model it's ready for the assembly of the turbine is provided, with all the reinforcements plywood assembled, the exhaust pipe and tanks (smoke and kero) in position. The other improvements that have been posted regarding the reach trucks, the coupling lines wings, horizontal and vertical rudder and a more durable finish and uniform.
In addition to the "Turbo Foam" it's available from HSD also the traditional version EDF (ducted fan) that differs for the new ESC that passes 120A to 150A while the fan assembly remains identical (8s or 12S).
To add something new even in propulsion, in testing the new version of the Super Viper HSD, I wanted to replace the fan / motor unit and install a new JP 105mm EDF full metal from company "Jingpin Hobby" (China production). Fantastic and very beautiful!

I think I am safe when I Say That when in the modellism world we talk of JP Hobby (http://www.jingpinhm.com/en/index.asp): there is no need many presentations becouse these factory is one of the best leaders in production of electric Rc EDF. But for the novice it is worth remembering that JP Hobby have in production a series of Edf from 70 to 120mm all made of aluminum alloys selected and processed with advanced CNC machines.
These features are important for my choice of a new fan to be installed in this new model: Super Viper HSD V3 Edf originally comes with a 105mm CS Edf. JP 105mm 8S has met all my requirements and has become the ideal candidate.
These Edf it's attractive and "solid" design, the all-aluminum construction "High grade" that Facilitates dissipation of heat generated by the motor, a rotor with 12 blades full metal tested for over 80,000 rpm, a fascinating sound and a light weight (550 grams with motor) and reliability declared by JP (the Edf is tested for 8 hours for stressing components ...) All these convinced me to try these fan in my new model. Holding it my hand I can already appreciate the quality and workmanship in every part and the photos do not do justice.

The JP 105mm features are a 12 impeller aluminium HG blades made so as to withstand the stress also to the speed of rotation of 80,000Rpm  and produce a turbine-like sound so loved by "Edf users". The 8S version that I tested has an engine JP-VI-4250 1150Kv, 12 poles and 6mm axis with currents up to 140Ah with a maximum of 90% efficiency that arises in the higher end among the Edf of this category . Obviously JP Edf comes already dynamically balanced and tested at the bench.
Talking to Shane Yang of Jingpin Hobbies I could learn some technical news of these Edf, including security... Having a impeller with high grade aluminum in a single body and a particularly stressful pre-delivery tests for components, are all features that work in favor of this company.

Slowly we go on ...
The 8S version that I have installed on the new Super Viper HSD weighs 550 grams and it's placed in the lower range among the competitors. Is delivered with connector 5mm;  bench tests showed absorptions of 119 amps with battery volt to 29,6v for the decay of the voltage for maximum power demand; thrust amounts to about 5kg with 3500 watts. With voltage 31V (hence with higher performance batteries) you can squeeze well 3750 watts and 120A absorption with a thrust of about 5.4 kg.

In my jobs for assembling the new SuperViper HSD with the new JP 105mm I decide to buy a new esc  for this fan. For this was invaluable help from Shane Yang of JP who informed me that to have no problems of settings for the correct operations to their JP105mm you need to match an elected esc between ZTW Mantis JP HV 150A, the Hifei Esc, or a Hobbywing. I chose the ZTW Mantis JP HV 150A Opto with maximum absorption of 180A, which supports batteries from 6 to 12S and weighing 142grammi.
The regulator coupled to JP ZTW Mantis HV-150A 105mm fan and allow you to have a power unit free from any compatibility problems and are unable to exploit the full potential of propulsion. The regulator is factory set for JP EDF but for those who like to "tinker" with regulators is possible to intervene on the parameters with Tx or through programming card (purchased separately).
The controller has a good progression in acceleration (no voids ...) and an automatic fail-safe that cuts the power in case of signal loss for more than 2 seconds; in case of overheating enters instead into "power reduction" mode. All these (including the generous heat dissipation), however with more weight than a traditional esc. But for safety.....
Obviously for these esc Opto I had to install on my new Super Viper V3 also an auxiliary battery from 2S 2200Mah to manage both the Rx that the gear retract. For Rx power also I have install a nice UBEC Turnigy with a display that indicates the battery voltage ...

Hi friends.
Good 2017 to all subscribers to this forum!
I continue my mini review stressing that in this new version of the Super Viper HSD I also installed the control system of Flexinnovations, the Aura 8 AFCS, gyro dedicated to fixed-wing aircraft and of which I published in this same forum a brief review. My choice to install the Aura 8 was dictated by the need to expand the channels of my RX 7 2.4 Jeti Duplex channels which were not sufficient to control all functions of the Super Viper. I would point out to those who had not read my review of the Flexinnovations gyro that with this device with the Jeti UDI interface protocol can be used, in addition to the physical channels of Rx, also the virtual channels of Jeti. I remind you the brief steps:
I connected the Aura 8 to my receiver Jeti REX7 through port "B" of the gyro and the receiver output 7 with the protocol Jeti UDI interface (almost like an S-Bus Futaba) .To do this you need, however, access the parameters of Rx via the menu "Device Explorer" of the Jeti TX (I have the DS-16) and set the output Pin 7 (physical channel 7) not as a "servant" but "Serial UDI" (12 or 16 is irrelevant). In doing so not only can you connect the gyroscope (or other devices) via a single cable, but you can take advantage of as many as 16 output channels: 7 in the pin of Rx and others 9 virtual (total 16...). It 'simply assign the functions and the assignment to serve on Tx find them on the device (in my case the Aura Cool. in doing so I was able to enjoy a total of 11 channels in my Rx 7 channels ... And all works fine!

As you can see from the photos posted in my previous post, HSD has replaced in the new Super Viper the control unit. The new version differs substantially from the first in a new black "case" and the presence of outputs for the lighting system (not provided in this EDF version) but that can be installed with install the cable in the wings and in the noise retract...  The unit for gear retratct remained largely unchanged. In the photos published here you can also have the references of the inputs / outputs of the two devices.
To underline also that gear retract must be connect to the 7,4v battery ( lipo)  to work fine.
