Post by: topalle on July 22, 2012, 01:49:22 PM
i am making a commercial jet plane with two wing mounted engines . it will be 48 cm wide and 30 cm long. it would be made out of foam taken from thermocol party plates. can someone adice me as to reducing cost in case of servos...i plan to use small motors and wire for the flaps... pls advise about landing gears too... i am bending this foam using hair dryer... pls tell how to make nose and tail section as that is the part i am stuck up with... :help:  :help:

thanks ;D

going to post some initial pictures. pls someone look at them and help me out...
i was wondering that can we use motors in place of servos or make our own servos? we just need to move a small 2-3 gram flap or aileron... ?

You complete electronics requirement is going to be dictated by the TX and RX which you are going to use.

First home on the type of Tx Rx planning to use.

Which will dictate its going to be servos/ actuators/ or motors for control inputs.

CAN WE USE MOTORS IN PLACE OF SERVOS?

Title: Re: Just started on my first edf jet plane

RC flying in all scale is only Servos 100%, because all your receivers are only servo capable. Only in some cases of micro RC flying control is by using micro actuators (electromagnetic type or screw geared motor linear servos type) which have special receivers. Motors are used only in robotics which have totally different control electronics which is not worthwhile for using in RC flying due to weight consideration, control response and since due to availability of custom designed receivers and servos for the purpose. Motors are used only in robotics not in RC flying.

Please go through the RC India Gems thread.
on top of the home page to have a better perspective. (http://www.rcindia.org/rc-india-forum/the-rc-india-gems/)

Dear Topalle, I have a simple advice for you (of course free  :giggle:) since you are asking cheapest things to be used.

Make a static model of the plane you want to build with freely available clay and paint it with chepest available water colour.

For a flying model, you need to study and understand the science behind before starting such project.

If you even dont know what a motor and a servo does and if they are interchangable, then you need to study a lot.

hi,

pls see attached pic , as per ur requirement.

you will have to scale the image to ur requirement.

as for the engines. u will need two edf motors.

in this hobby nothing is cheap. hence before starting any project
kindly prepare for all the investment.

If you post your budget it would be easier for people to help you. Please don't mind me asking (I am a noob myself), is this your first plane? If so, stay away from "jets". A slow flying high wing trainer is what you need.

no it isnt my first plane... (which i flew) this is my first plane i own... i flew my friends plane many times. it is a cessna trainer

my budjet is >3000. since i am making the body from scratch...this is the price of electronics which I am ready to spend

Topalle, (Ref to post # 18) if you keep the AUW low, you can do with 2 engines on a 747 airframe (you will have to make 2 dummy engine housings for the scale appearance). However, it may be a better idea to search the net for an aircraft that requires 2 engines like a 737 series or Airbus 300/320.

Ref post # 20 - You may have flown a Cessna Trainer many times, how many planes have you built / scratch built? Flying and building are entirely different ball games. Trust me on this. If this is your first build, it may prove to be a daunting task. If this is indeed your first build, you would be better off building a SPAD or a Depron high winger at this stage.

but i have built it this far. so should i replace edfs with propellers to slow it down?

Title: Re: Just started on my first edf jet plane
Post by: topalle on July 29, 2012, 10:40:46 AM
that will reduce the cost considerably.

and what about landing gear? I will not take rectractable ones as they are costlier. will this afffect the plane's performanace (due to increaded drag)?

Most of the questions you are asking has been discussed before. Please go through the RC India Gems, and use the search option on the top right hand part of the page. I would advice you to kindly drop your plan of building it now and read through the threads not only on this forum but also on other forums such as RCGroups, Rcuniverse,(google your doubts!) etc for a month or so. In this process, you will find answers to your questions and you will also understand that the current model you want to build is not feasible as the first scratchbuild plane and that high wing trainers or simple spad designs are far better options.

Is the pic shown is of main wing......if yes then a sincere advice to put your plan first and the dimensions......the main wing if it is does not seem to be correct at all. What is the material u used????

My dear friend, Again a humble reply, this thread is a waste of time and I am sure you dont know anything about basics.  Its a humble request that  please read and learn first.

You are not only wasting your time but also wasting a complete thread here. No harm in not knowing, but its really bad when you dont try to learn and also pretend that you know everything.

Please close this thread.  Administerator should understand that this is not a learning exercises but a time waste.

what is wrong with the main wing? it looks like it should...

You are not only wasting your time but also wasting a complete thread here. No harm in not knowing, but its really bad when you dont try to learn and also pretend that you know everything.

i kno something or the other about aerodynamics and all lift drag weight thrust couples. i also know about airfoils so pls don't think i am just a begenner...i know what will make my plane fly...

my material of construction is the thin thermocol out of which plates and cups are made of.

i think you are comparing the wing with some jumbo jet. i plan to make some private jet plane. a small one is better for me. the wing of  private jets are almost like this .

i know where to put the sevos but my wing is so thin that a servo would barely fit. the airfoil is small . max. thickness of wing is 2.2 cm. also i have seen how to make the nose but it looks very clumsy as in the case of pickle6's airplane. i want to know how to make the nose form one piece. pls don't say anything about others which you don't know..

topalle brother a very humble request.please do some more study and research before building this.i am also into scratch building but still never tried this one.i know i need to improove my skills in many departments.you should first consider building a high winger trainer plane.also your profile information shows that you are a flyer with intermediate skills, still so many issues.kindly give some more time and search.
hope you dont feel offended.

I have put 2 months of research into it. i want to know how to build this particular plane. and i have flown some high-wing trainers...and yes. i need to build one for experience. but i have completed the wing assembly and tail assembly. only thing left is nose and electronics. thats why i cannot staop it at this point.
